Lockout still affecting you?

Postby IanMoran on Sat Apr 06, 2013 11:59 am

I remember during the lockout there was a ton of "I'm done with hockey" "Won't enjoy it anymore," etc type of claims

Curious if there is anyone out there that still harbors such negative feeling that they watch or care less now?

I actually know ONE person who used to love the Pens who hasn't watched this season... I think they're just missing out on a great year

I still have not purchased one piece of NHL merchandise since the lockout.

If they cancelled the whole season I probably wouldn't have come back. My protest for this year was not ordering Center Ice. Luckily a large number of games end up on one of the NBCs or on NHL Network. I'll be honest though I forget a lot of the time that the lockout even happened. I recognize that this is a shortened season but don't really think about why.

I am back 100% in terms of viewing. But like others have not purchased a single thing and do not plan on it unless a certain team wins the cup

I can't say that I harbor negative feelings towards the league as a whole, but the NHL may have less of my attention that it might otherwise because I developed other interests to fill the time vacated by the lockout.

I said I wouldn't buy any NHL merch this year.....but then the Pens traded for Iginla. I got a t shirt jersey thing. Couldnt say no. If hes only in a Pens jersey for a few months I had to have something with his name and number on it in black and gold.

I never made a claim that i wouldn't watch hockey again because i knew i would came back even if it lasted a entire year. I was on the owners side and i think they won and glad that hockey is on safer ground.

Admittedly, I wasn't as excited as I would have thought when the season started up, but that quickly dissipated. The lockout is pretty far from my thoughts at this point.

Nope, I dont have the same rooting interest for the other pittsburgh sports as I do for the penguins. So I couldn't wait for hockey to come back. I watched Sj/calgary over the Succaneers last night. I forgot about the lockout and am ready for playoffs.

I said I was done, and it was mostly out of frustration with the whole situation. I was still pretty adamant that I wasn't going to watch this season when it started, but then I read something Mac or someone wrote about it only hurting yourself. And he was right, why deprive myself of something I enjoy, when no one else will know or care about me depriving myself. That said, I haven't bought anything NHL related this year... yet.

The lockout made me realize that outside of the Pens the NHL is a boring product. I would have no interest if we did not still have a team.

I liked the lockout because I needed a break after the Philly series. My enthusiasm was still down by the time October rolled around anyways so it worked out nicely for me. That's not to say I wouldn't have still watched, but this year's team has been the most fun to watch since the Cup year.

I said I wouldn't go to a game this year. I still haven't been to one.

That being said, I have put a notice up in the tickets thread that I'm looking for a ticket for the season finale, so there's a chance I might go back on my word.

I'm back as usual. The lockout is old news, you have to move on.

I will say that I like the shortened season with each game having more importance and the fast pace of the schedule. Going back to the full 82 games next year will seem like a marathon compared to this year.

I was surprised to find myself feeling the same way.

No, and I didn't anticipate it would affect me at all once the puck dropped.

Sold every game of my share of season tickets this year, haven't bought any NHL merchandise. Not going in on tickets next year for the first time in 17 years.

To be honest, I was planning on all of this before the Pens lost to Philly last year...lockout made the decision easier. Add to that a pregnant wife and the news that the baby on the way is now babies means I'm definitely out. However, I will stick to my guns and say "damn those greedy NHL players and Owners [waves fist in air] you're not getting another dime of my money"

Time to stock up on diapers.

I didn't care. Business is Business. I mean, I cared but I didn't get all butt hurt over it. They don't owe me anything because I cheered for them.

Does watching the games on TV put any money in the NHL's, owners or players pockets? If any of them are yes, does it really matter if you boycott merchandise?

I definitely had less excitement at the beginning of the season than I usually do and didn't even bother watching a few games but I look forward to watching now just like I always used too.

I told myself before the year that I wouldn't attend any games or buy any merchandise. I ended up going to two games but I purchased them through a STH so at least I didn't directly pay the Pens and didn't spend a dime in the arena while there. I've held firm on not buying any merchandise though, only time I've even looked at Pens merchandise was going into the team store last week to redeem the Pens Points voucher. Never said I wouldn't take free gear..
