Playoff format

Postby Scott on Sun Apr 07, 2013 9:26 pm

My son and I were talking about the different playoff formats in a best of seven scenario.

I was curious as to which format you prefer.

2-3-2

or the current

2-2-1-1-1

My vote goes to the current format.

2-3-2 is just brutal if the away team steals one of those first two games.

I have no preference really. If the league went to the 2-3-2 I would have no qualms with that.

2-2-1-1-1. The lower seed should not be given an advantage at any point.

This. The only way that they should go 2-3-2 is if they made it 1 vs 16, etc...to help with travel.

It should never be possible for the lower seed team to get as many home games as the higher seed.

This.

Lower seed should never have a home game advantage. Nor should they host a game 7.

Let me try:

2-2-1-1-1.

Is that 5 home games to 2 for the higher seed?

How about:

1-2-3-1

or

1-1-1-1-1-1-1

or

2-1-1-1-1-1

or

2-1-2-1-1

or

3-3-1

or

1-3-3

or

4-1-2

First round 16 teams in, 14 out. 8 matchups in the first round.

the 2/7, 3/6, 4/5 matchups play their first two games @ the teams ranked 17-28.
The 1/8 matchups play their first game at the 1 seed, then their second game at the teams ranked 29 and 30.
After that, the matchups go 2-2-1.

Second round there are 8 teams in, 8 eliminated.
They each play the first game @ the team that the higher seed beat, second game @ the team the lower seed beat.
After that, 2-2-1

Conference finals 4 teams left
1-1-1-1-1-1-1

Stanley Cup Finals
Play all 7 games at the winner of the fastest skater relay competition.
