Thoughts on who will and wont be back for 1st round?

Postby MarioLives on Tue Apr 09, 2013 8:49 am

I know Letang will be back, but do any of you think Crosby, Neal, Martin could miss the 1st round? I would assume Neal and Martin are the ones most questionable? And Crosby depends on infection and the setting of the screws?

Are you confident that this team will be close to full strength before the playoff run?

It won't matter if Winnipeg catches the Caps and the caps get the 8 seed. It'll be a quick exit, healthy or not.

I cannot comment....I am not allowed to talk about that team ever again.

It seems there are no teams left we have a reasonable chance of beating in a 7-game series.

It's pretty crazy how less optimistic I am now than I was two weeks ago. The injuries obviously have a lot to do with that, but I am just getting really bad vibes about this postseason. I hope I'm wrong, but I certainly don't have the "BRING ON THE EAST" attitude that others seem to have.

I think we went from odds-on favorites to win the East to perhaps the 3rd highest odds, IMO.

Well depending on the result every game, the mood around here changes. I think the Pens, if healthy, should have a great shot of at least getting to the ECF. But that health thing is scary. I just dont get why they are so banged up every year. Key injuries, every year. These injuries are hard also, because their time frame is not set for a return.

I'm tempering my expectations until Bylsma shows that his team can perform in the playoffs or they get a new coach.

Caps are going to win the East IMO.

Crosby will be back for the 1st round. Martin would be available in round 2. Neal is iffy. As soon as round 1 as late as next season.

Getting back to the topic, Letang, Crosby and Neal will all be back.

Martin probably won't but I wouldn't be surprised if he is.

I think the Rangers will obliterate the Caps in Round 1.

Crosby will be back before the playoffs and so will Martin.

Letang will be back tonight.

Neal we have no clue on because all we know is he has a concussion. Word is he is doing really well already though.

Honestly, i think this team will be healthy come playoff time outside of new injuries. The ones that the Pens currently have will be cleared up by the end of the month.

I'm not so certain, especially with the Caps having home ice.

I would imagine that the "team I am not allowed to talk about" will play Ottawa? Which is the easiest match up for anyone. I would love for them to fall to the Pens for round 1. They are fielding half their AHL team.

I with Gaucho on this one. Staal being out is a concern, but the Rags are a team built to stop a team like the caps. That being said, I see the Rags doing well enough to get the #5 seed.

I think Sid, Neal and Letang will be back, and possibly Martin as well. Hard to keep guys out of the playoffs.

Seeding...I'm going with this...

1. Boston Bruins VS. 8. New York Islanders
2. Pittsburgh Penguins VS. 7. Ottawa Senators
3. Washington Capitals VS. 6. Toronto Maple Leafs
4. Montreal Canadiens VS. 5. New York Rangers

I could easily see Ottawa just falling out of the playoffs. In fact, I expect it.

Win the East in the regular season? With 9 games left, they need to win every game to get to 60 points. They play Montreal twice, Ottawaaah twice, Toronto, and Boston. The other games are their SE division doormats brethren. It's a longshot to vault the Penguins and the NE division.

The Jets have an easier schedule with Montreal, Caps, and the Isles being the only playoff-ish teams in their last 8 games.

Coming out of the Eastern Conference, sure, anything can happen. They make for an excellent dark horse contender. Ovechkin appears to be back on PEDs, and Oates system has gained traction.

As for the thread, I think all except for perhaps Martin will be back for the first round. The big problem will be to get everyone on the same page as far as systems, chemistry, line combos and so on. Hopefully, this road trip will provide for some bonding moments.

Plus I keep going back to it....please play Despres top line minutes and move Nisky back to the #5. Less is more for Nisky and more is more for Despres. Just let him play and things will get better. That is the number one thing I wil Byslma would change in his coaching.

I guess is we can get everyone but Martin back by round 1, that would be a huge win for the Pens.

I don't care who we play in each round. Just have to intensely focus and try to beat each team we face.

It could be a #1 seed or a #8 seed, i will still feel the same way. Every shift counts and every opportunity MUST be converted. Just an intense fear of losing and that makes the desire to cheer and be there all the more magnified.

Also, my issue isn't with injuries, it's line combinations and players playing out of position. Keeping Dupuis on the first line at the expense of someone like Iginla who is currently playing out of position while Neal is healthy scares me more than anything.

I like Oates' system, but I still question that they have the defensive corps to actually make it work to the full, especially in the postseason.

Conceding the 1 seed when the Pens still have the best point percentage in the east? Montreal is 3 points back with 1 game in hand, and Boston is 4 points back with 1 game in hand.

Re-stating the obvious, or are you really asking me? Clearly if I have them at 2, than that's where I think they'll end up. I could be full of it too.

I kind of feel the same way.

If we didn't lose some key players to injury, we could have had a few weeks to get the lines to gell etc.

Now, there will be shuffling, then players will be coming back for the playoffs, and it just seems like things aren't going to click they way they should.

However, I think if we make it past Rd 1, we will be fine.
