A perfect example of how you can twist statistics to say what ever you want to say.

What a hideous analysis that abandons all qualitative factors.

This would be like saying a military force would be better off strategically having their 50 highest ranking officers killed than 250 grunts, CUZ ONE NUMBER IS HIGHER THAN THE OTHER DURP.

I'm not a fan of "luck" but the pens have been incredibly blessed this season, and how can you say we haven't? We have the lead we do on the division thanks in no small part to being one of the healthier teams this season. Yeah, it sucks that we haven't had all the superstars in the lineup over the last month or so...but we've still one of the healthier teams overall this season. Plus, none of them look to be gone through the summer...we could still be one of the healthier teams heading into the playoffs.

The lone comment makes more sense and is better written than the article.

Just from the bottom of the article it talks about crosby trying to win the art ross and he said that winning a personal award like that could go a long way in contract negotiations, but failed to mention crosby just signed a 12 year contract and most likely will only sign 1 more if that.

we are where we are largely because of the points accumulated during the winning streak. do you want to go on record saying we had good luck, health-wise, during that streak?

I honestly have thought THIS year the "OMG PENS ARE SOOOO SCREWED" by injury narratives to be completely false. We really have been ok compared to others thus far (this all is pending on how quickly Crosby and company come back). If everyone but Martin comes back before playoffs it really hasn't been a bad year

True, but I would argue that "blessed with good injury luck" is a bit ridiculous.

The metrics of the ROI don't seem to meet our organization's direction. We'll circle-back with you at a future date to make a decision on how our company wishes to proceed. We need to do more with less.

Whats the problem with the article? I mean the title is pretty terrible, but the point is fair enough. None of these injuries appear to be season-enders and we are sitting pretty atop the conference with an incredible amount of depth and leadership still on the ice. Yeah, the numbers don't so justice to who we've lost, but teams like Detroit, Ottawa and Philly are in far worse shape (It would be interesting to see a pt/gm lost to injury or similar stat).

We are going to end up in a top 2 spot with potentially (although probably unlikely) our entire team ready to play come the start of the playoffs. For a dangerous contact sport, I would consider that pretty blessed with good injury luck fortunate.

If having Crosby, LeTang, Martin, & Neal out at the same time just before the playoffs start (and with only LeTang with an imminent return)is good luck, I'm certainly gald the Pens don't have bad luck. :face:

BTW, did the author conveniently forget 2011?

He has a good point about the impressiveness of certain teams like the Senators with the injury trouble, but at the same time alot of those teams with high injuries had a player get hurt early who has been sitting, the Pens will probably be mid pack when this is all said and done thanks to Sid/Martin being out the rest of the year.

Ottawa - Spezza and Karlson
Mon - Bourque missed 17 games
Fla - riddled throughout lineup
Win - That guy with the cut leg
Chicago - Hossa/Sharp
Phi - defense

If you're going to try to use man games lost as some sort of metric, you need to weigh it with the % of the team payroll occupied by the injured players. That's a decent measurement of "value lost to injury". Our 2011 team might set some sort of record in this category.
