The Bruins could put off a final decision on postponement of the game until about 5:00-6:00 PM if playing without fans is an option. If that is not an option, they will have to announce a postponement much sooner I would think.

Also, why should the Pens and B's only play 47 games. I'm pissed if i'm a fan of other Eastern Conference teams. Alot can happen in 60 minutes.

Some things are bigger and more important than the lost revenue of 1 game.

Chances are they make it up, and it wouldn only be if it determines a playoff seed.

Or play it tomorrow, can the buffalo game in Pittsburgh and only make up if necessary (that one shouldn't).

Pens are not going to give up the revenue in this option.

Agreed ... but look at how much Boston's owner cared about the $$$ when he driving the lockout.

Yes, we never thought about playing without fans. That could certainly be done.

If they tell fans they aren't welcome at the game, wouldn't they have to give them their money back for the tickets and we would be right back to the revenue loss argument?

Even if it's in an empty arena it's still a security issue. The Boston police is currently busy at the moment.

The Celtics gave up revenue for one game because of this crisis.

If the manhunt and related activities are still on-going late this afternoon and up around game time, there is no way the game will be played. I don't think the city would allow it, not to mention, I don't think the city would take away police officers away from the bombing activities to provide security needed for the game.

I agree it shouldn't be an issue to sacrifice 1 game's revenue given the situation. Just playing off some other's arguments.

David Ortiz has said that the Red Sox game is cancelled. I assume the Bruins/Pens will follow suit.

This game should be cancelled. Only argument (which isn't even a valid one) to play it is it is inconvenient for NHL to reschedule.

The Celtics-Pacers game really couldn't have been replayed, unless it would have been in an alternate venue. The arena was taken every day except the day before the playoffs start, and each team had already clinched their seed. If the Celtics interfere with the arena, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pens-B's play a make up in Hartford, Providence, or similar.

Canceling the baseball game means nothing, really. Early in the season, easy to make up, they do it all the time anyway due to rain.

Good point. :thumb:

What security would they need for about 100 people (players, arena workers, game officials, players, coaches, broadcasters, etc.) at the arena?

They'd need to sweep the arena, for one. They'd also need to escort the players to the arena and secure the building while the game was going on, and then escort the players out. The point is, those are things that the police would do and right now they're busy doing something else.

Why would they pull ANY police or security from the manhunt just to allow a GAME to be played?

It's silly, and pointless.

It's safe to assume that the hockey game is not exactly the police and security forces top priority at the moment.
