I understand it's an exercise in futility to even contemplate it, but how much would you like to see these two teams (92-93 and the current Pens) play each other in a seven game series?

The only question is which rulebook?

I think under todays rules, the current Pens win, under the old rulebook, the '93 pens win... and that "fact" by itself shows how great a GM both EJ was and RS is.

Eh, the current team would kill the '93 team.

Those guys are all ancient by now.

Come on, Rich. No way it would even go 6 (under any rule book).

Meh, nothing's changed since the trades. All in, and nothing less than a Finals appearance will satisfy anyone in the organization. No one's celebrating.

Pleased but not satisfied, the Penguins know they will be measured by the postseason.
“But that's the thing,” Sutter said. “As great at this is, we want something more. But yeah, it's been a great regular season. No doubt about it.”

That is my sense, as well. One thing this team does seem to have is a helluva work ethic.

To his credit, Nashville wasn't that bad of a team. A playoff contender, with some good talent in Erat and Legwand, they were an all right team. Not the best by far, but they weren't as god awful as Florida was when he was on the team. He was the centerpiece in Florida cause he faced sometimes upwards of 45 shots a night and only let 2 goals in.

I was referring to the media and parts of the fanbase. I'm well aware that nobody in the organization is ready to celebrate yet.

Side-note the Pens are like 22-2 in their last 24 games.

Really would be an intriguing series if you could time-shift the 1992-93 Pens into the present to play this team. Both teams were (are) capable of defensive let-downs. Both teams could score almost at will. Both starting goaltenders were streaky. It would be a hell of series. :thumb:

The rules would definitely make a difference. Let's say, just for fun, the series is played using today's rulebook.
- Team speed advantage to 2012-13.
- Grit and defensive play advantage to 1992-93.
- Goaltending - a draw
- Forwards and goal-scoring - a thin advantage to 1992-93. You have a whole host of snipers on each squad, but can you imaging Lemieux and Jagr unemcumbered by the clutching and grabbing permitted 20 years ago? I think they would be close to unstoppable. The 1992-93 forwards are equally as skilled as their current counterparts, but they are also a bit bigger (Lemieux, Jagr, Stevens, Francis).

I would say the 1992-93 team wins in 6 tough games.

I don't know if we could really call Fleury streaky after his last 3 regular seasons. He's become a much more consistent goaltender, with the odd bad game here or there (like anyone else).

Did someone celebrate a SC victory? I missed it...

I'm actually thoroughly enjoying watching one of the two (2) most talented teams Pittsburgh has ever put on the ice. The other one lost before they even got to the cup.

So scolding folks for "premature celebrations" is a bit (prematurely) haughty.

He's already been announced the starter, and Hartzell will back him up. Fleury didn't even make the trip.

Yes, you missed it, what a surprise. I didn't scold anyone, certainly not for celebrating a SC victory. I'm just wary of the media talking about how great this team is, because so far it has won zilch and is missing a handful of it best players. But guess I shouldn't be surprised by now that you're detecting subtext where none exists. I hope you're having fun, be safe, carry on, foe me, whatever.

Oh, and good for you that you enjoy watching the team, because I certainly don't. In fact, I hate it with a passion and I'm only staying up all night to make myself miserable in the rare moments when I don't have one of your incoherent ramblings to do the job.

Peace.
