Did you miss Boston's GWG last night?

not perfect coverage, but sometimes you just get beat by an exceptional play.

Exceptional play? Bergeron walked right past him and Brooks made the softest defensive play possible.

Uh, from what I recall, he was stride for stride with Bergeron, angling him away from the goal. The only thing bad about the play was not lifting Bergeron's stick in the process.

Yea... softest possible play.

In hindsight. But if he does that, then we'd be hearing about a "terrible penalty" that he took.

Ok, add some draft picks then.

Letang is a Norris Trophy candidate, as crazy as it sounds given his gaffes. He's an unreal talent with questionable common sense. Still, he's extremely valuable and will be highly sought after if put on the market. The ONLY way a guy like Paajarvi is involved in a deal is if he is a throw in. If the Pens were to deal Fleury and Letang to Edmonton, the deal begins with an offensive talent like Gagner, Nugent-Hopkins, or Yakupov, and continues with a defenseman like Smid, plus a prospect like Klefbom or Hartikainen, and this year's first overall pick.

Mikey takes some time to post his suggestions and given the amount of threads and panic still abound, he would prefer to wait until the dust settles a little bit. Lots to discuss, he'll see what threads become prominent and pertinent and then will be eager to discuss the future of this team.

Trading Letang to LAK for rights to Bernier (signed for increase) and Penner (signed for same) might also to be able to get some combination of picks or prospects
Signing Scuds from LAK he's UFA
Traded MAF to .... anyone got Picks, prospects???? something, nothing NHL ready
Resigned Duper and Cooke for slight $ increase (home team discount)
Resigned Eaton, Murray, Jeffries, Malkin all for the same as last year
Compliance buyout of Orpik

Agreed. What do you think is a feasible return for him? Do you feel like a high draft pick has to come back with a roster player simply because of cap reasons?

Bernier is RFA
Penner is UFA so we get early talks with him
Throw in Scuds UFA for early talking and put in provisions that if we cant get deals done with Penner and Scuds we get more that the above mentioned draft picks and or prospects

It adds up to be a nice deal if Ray is as good as we all think he is.

It's hard to say, but I would assume you start with the same package you got for Jordan Staal which was a young, established NHL replacement, a high 1st round pick and a very good prospect.

Kris Letang is regarded as one of the top 5-10 defense men in the league. He should command quite a return.

See above

Ok, Kris Letang is worth more than Bernier, Penner and some late 1st round/mid-round picks you'll get from the Kings.

Besides, they're already paying Doughty $7 million per year. They aren't going to tie up that much money into 2 defensemen.

Indeed, that's why being trading partners with either Edmonton or Colorado is so enticing. High draft picks and a plethora of youth up front. Either steal one of those kids from the Oilers or take the chance with Colorado's pick and get MacKinnon.

A Letang for Hall swap would be sweet. I'd much rather pay a high-end forward $6-7 mil than a defenseman unless his name is Weber.

Do you think the straight swap is enough, or would Edmonton have to toss in more? I like Hall a lot, but he's pretty injury prone this early in his career. Not saying it would deter me, but it's something to figure into seeing as how Sid always manages to get himself injured too.

In my world

Letang & Fleury to Col for the 1st pick and Varly
Torres - super gamble but Cooke replacement, could give the Pens the tag of a team that can fix players
Iginla - IF he's going to be used correctly, as in in his right position with Crosby and on the PP he comes back for that price
Duper - He does it all, deserves the raise, and can play anywhere
Sarich - From what I remember he's real good position wise and rarely gets beat 1 on 1. Calgary may have ruined him but I shipped Nisky and Glass there for Sarich.
Ference - Solid, good skater, knows what it takes to win. Would he leave Boston?
Seth Jones - 1st overall, he should play right away
Murray - With the D I have the Pens can play fast or big. He a valuable piece if used correctly
Varly - Has shown he can play really well or meltdown but is maturing, is going to be a RFA, and with a good goalie coach could very well be the guy

Coach - Tippett would be my first choice but I'd also be open to Toch or Boughner. I really don't want Ruff as I feel he has been dubbed a good coach because of one good Sabres run after the lockout.

It's not at all a bad idea to look into getting a young goalie, especially if you feel Fleury is for sure on his way out. Bernier is enticing, but I feel like it'd be cheaper to get his rights without Letang involved. Our lack of draft picks does make that difficult, though, since that'd be the primary payment since LA can't take on much more cap.

My only issue is having Murray re-signed as a 7/8th d-man. Though I do love the depth, just seems a little pricey, unless it's only for next season. Other than that, a good way of looking at possibilities.
