I had to edit it a bit because capgeek didn't put Seth on his entry deal. Removed Hecht and re-signed Adams. As for Murray he provides an element the Pens haven't had in years. Hitting doesn't equal defense but protected minutes and a good coach make him very useful especially because Despres and Jones will struggle at times and may need to sit a game or two.

He really is the crease-clearer we haven't had in many years. Part of me also wants to see more spots for youth open up not named Despres, but the other part realizes most of the kids (Harrington, Maata, Pouliot) are still a year or two away from cracking the lineup potentially. Never a bad idea to have a strong veteran lineup like you have there, though. Also makes drafting MacKinnon look a little more enticing with the youth we have coming up as well.

Yeah I mean Youth is served with Bennett, Despres, and Jones but there are solid veterans around for support if it is needed. That all depends on Colorado playing ball which I can't claim to know but can dream.

Perhaps not. What's your ideal scenarios for a Letang trade? Ruling out Hall.

Was looking around at some other teams. Not sure how I feel about this package, but what about Andrew Ladd, Zach Bogosian, 13th overall pick + prospect/more picks.

Andrew Ladd would be a nice complimentary winger for Sid. Sort of a younger Kunitz and he's signed for the next 3 years at a reasonable price.

Zach Bogosian is a young, hard-hitting, offensively capable defensemen who is about to sign a more reasonable 2nd NHL contract. And you round out the deal with a high 1st rounder and more picks/prospects.

Not bad, but from a Winnipeg viewpoint it looks like an overpayment on their part, at least to me.

if we trade letang, we're going to need someone to eat up minutes on D in his absence. maybe there's a team out there desperate enough for offense that they would trade a solid stay-at-home dman for letang? martin seemed to have found his pinching mojo this year. put him with a souped up scuderi-type and that seems like it would be a good top pair.

if that trade doesn't exist? we'll probably just have to do a staal deal and get a role player, 1st round pick and a prospect in return.

A la Ladislav Smid? Maybe if you move Fleury you could even manage to get Scuds back in a Pens jersey?

As I stated in the other Letang thread, I think Letang gets WAY more than that, unless the draft pick is very high, simply because Shero has more leverage in this situation than he did in the Staal deal, in the fact that we don't KNOW where Letang is going to sign as a UFA, thus potentially turning his trade into a bidding war.

Nice deal, but Evander Kane is the guy you want and supposedly, he wants out of Winny. I bet he'd love to come to the Pens. Now that is a power-forward, young Iginla type winger. Bogosian has been on the outs at times up there and he would be a "Letang-light" for the Pens to replace Letang with.

Good lord Kane totally slipped my mind :face: I've heard he wants out too, at least from some reports last season.

Are you guys talking trading

Letang for Kane and Bogosian?

That might be too big of a cap hit to make work, but i'll run the numbers.....

Would they want MAF or Orpik or Martin?

I'd also just like to put out there that IF HCDB is fired.... i think thats a big IF. get Tangradi back.... but i'm in the minority on that...

I don't really like these threads, but my first order of business would be to fire Bylsma, then I would start interviewing candidates. I wouldn't even consider the market before firing him.

I bet we get a lesser return for Letang than we are expecting but pawn off Nisky and Glass in the deal (or something similar).

Looks like you've got Letang going to LA for Bernier and Penner. How are you getting Kane? Plus that D crop has a very weak bottom half. Also, paying Dupuis $3 million to play on the third line seems a bit much...

What is Jonathan Bernier's price-tag on the market right now? Is he really worth as high of a price as people are making it seem?

Just saw there was a rumor that Matt Read for Jonathan Bernier was close to being a deal at one point.

Would anyone here deal Beau Bennett for Jonathan Bernier?

And no, I wouldn't deal Beauflex for Bernier, simply because we're so depleted at youth on the wings, and he's a cheap and effective top-6 fix.

No, but I would deal Despres, or any of the other D prospects.

On the Pensblog podcast, Dejan made a really good point. The Pens have a wave of solid defensive talent on the way. On offense, every one of our solid prospects is named Beau Bennett. That makes BB and his 900K salary untouchable. It's also the major downside of developing defensemen: you can put rookie forwards into the lineup and the rest of the players can cover their mistakes and inconsistencies. You can only hide one rookie D man at a time, and even that is tough to do.

Can't keep trading young defenseman though. That just depletes that strength and actually makes the Pens weaker in negotiations with Letang. That has a lot more negative to it than positive.
