How game 1 will look

Postby BCG51585 on Fri Apr 26, 2013 2:27 am

It looks like, based on last night's action, that the lines in the playoffs will look like this:

Kunitz Crosby Dupuis
Iginla Malkin Neal
Morrow Sutter Cooke
Glass/Adams Jokinen Bennett/Kennedy

Orpik Martin
Eaton Letang
Murray Niskanen

Not quite sure how the fourth line will shake down but I'm hoping (certainly not expecting) Bennett will play. He's a more skilled TK who will add creativity and talent (and a much needed right handed shot) to a second PP unit that will likely include Neal or Kunitz, Martin/Niskanen, Jokinen, Morrow, and/or Dupuis.

I was kinda hoping that they would go:

9-87-12
14-71-18
10-36-19
24-16-27

That makes it so that everyone is playing in their normal positions (save for Dupuis who is now on his on wing instead) and would give the Pens THREE scoring lines and one checking line. That said, I'm okay with what they are going with.

yeah, i agree that is what the lines look like they will be. i hate the 2nd line as well as it seems Iginla is completely uncomfortable playing on the left wing and has done nothing with Malkin outside of the power play.

regardless, i'm sure the lines will change a ton throughout the playoffs.

i'm also anxious to see what the #1 power play unit will be.

That second line will be an epic failure if that's what they go with.

Iginla has showed zero chemistry with Malkin and is not comfortable on that side if they cater to Neal.

Kunitz Crosby Dupuis is a no brainer and that Morrow Sutter Cooke line is going to be legendary if the Pens go anywhere in the playoffs. Talent will come out in the Iginla Malkin Neal line.

Would it be dumb to not even give a thought to the fact that Sid, if asked, might have said he prefers playing with Kunitz and Dupuis? I know that isn't a reason if other combos are better, but that side of it is never brought up.

The 2nd line will figure it out. I want to see the 4th line as Bennett-Jokinen-Adams. All very good defensively and will score goals. That's better than a lot of third lines. I'd also be fine putting in Glass over Adams. Lots of options.

Interesting. I would assume he may have been asked and said whatever is best for the team. I think Kunitz with Malkin and Neal was a great line last season and putting Iggy with Sid allows him to play his natural spot and Dup can play anywhere. Iggy Malkin Neal has not produced as expected, but at the same time they have not had much time playing together.

in the last 10-12 games, here's what's been going on:

- glass > adams
- jokinen > sutter
- bennett > a bunch of people

aaaaand let's just ignore all that because "we're gonna love sutter" and CFA has a fun nickname and used to be meaningful on the PK.

Sutter has to play. He simply has to. We have no other forward who does what he does in the defensive zone.

Dupuis Crosby Iginla
Kunitz Malkin Neal
Cooke Sutter Morrow
Glass Jokinen Adams
Bennett
Kennedy

Letang Eaton
Orpik Martin
Niskanen Murray
Despres
Engelland
Bortuzzo

Iginla needs to be RW. He isn't looking good on the LW. ONLY dan bylsma would get a 500 goal scorer hall of fame winger and make him play the wrong side. Just switch him and kunitz.

Kunits - Malkin - Neal was the best line last season in the league. They can click. Crosby and figure out Dupuis and Iginla.

didn't know he was getting scratched.

if you spread the talent in the bottom 6, their playing time starts to equalize. for 3rd line to 4th line, it's now about 13 min to 8 min of ES time. you can probably get it to 11 min to 10 min with a little planning. even if it's something like 12 to 9, jokinen has easily been 3 minutes a game better than sutter in his time here.

Im completely shocked that anyone thinks Sutter shouldn't play, or even play over Jokinen. Sutter is a solid #3C. Good 200 foot game...I just don't get it.

ugh Bylsma.. please don't screw this up. Man he's just so annoying.

im so sick of Bylsma man...

I'd like to say I'll give DB the benefit of the doubt, but judging from what I've seen of Iginla on the LW, and with Geno, I'm strongly against it.

It's so simple. You have a HOF RW, play him there. You have a LW (Kunitz) that played very well with Malkin last year, play him there. You have Dupuis who can play either side! Move him to LW on Crosby's line. It's not rocket surgery.

But I guess we'll have to endure Iginla starting to struggle again after starting to look comfortable lately on his natural wing. I just hope HCDB figures it out before it hurts us.

It just doesn't make sense...how easy to logic is.. and how he isn't doing it. It's almost like he doesn't like to do the completely obvious things to try and look smarter or something. I just don't get it.

Video game logic. Players must plug into the position listed on their player card.

If Blysma is just gonna throw people wherever, why not:

Kunitz Crosby Neal
Morrow Malkin Iginla
Cooke Sutter Dupuis
Glass Jokinen Adams

Only reason I sit Bennett is that he has played a long season already (WBS and NHL) compared to what he has been used to over past 2 years.

Iginla has looked good on the LW?

Cooke has played some bad hockey on the RW at times too.
