Everyone is think of what happened in the Flyers series with Fleury. They don't realize how much of a fluke that series was.

I can't get over it, myself. Every non-Pens fan talking about the series is expecting Vokoun to replace Fleury.

Why? That really makes no sense. It's not like Fleury is a rookie being carefully watched so that he doesn't crack. He's won a Stanley Cup, is well rested, has a real defense in front of him (something that hasn't been there all the time), and plenty of playoff experience. I don't get that at all.

Is it possible he will have a bad game and get pulled? Heck yeah. And HCDB might spell him once or twice. But replaced? I don't think so. Can someone explain that thinking?

It's the "omg Fleury's the worst goalie ever" line of logic.

Just read a pretty good article by Burnside: http://espn.go.com/nhl/playoffs/2013/st ... -live-past

Former NHL player Keith Jones, now a national analyst, believes the Islanders' power play is potent enough that Fleury will have to be sharp. But he doesn't believe Fleury represents any kind of fatal flaw for the talent-laden Penguins.

Another national analyst, former NHL netminder Glenn Healy, agrees.

Healy thinks that the Penguins are a team on a mission and that Fleury does not represent any kind of deterrent to that mission being accomplished.

"That was an implosion of the entire team," Healy said of last year's wacky, 4-2 first-round series loss. "Everyone had a part in it, and Fleury did, too."

So here we've got a former Flyer in Keith Jones and a former goalie in Glenn Healy both saying they don't think Fleury will be problematic for the Pens.

Even outside of that, I think we'll all agree that Pens fans - as a whole - are notoriously hard on Fleury... but I'm not sure there are any who are concerned to be point of expecting him to be replaced by Vokoun. Sure, it's a possibility... it's also a possibility that Lundqvist falls apart and the Rangers go with Biron. That doesn't mean it will, or that it's even like to, happen.

Fleury can't win. He could throw up back to back shutouts today and friday - and give up a perceived soft goal on a 2 on 1 shorthanded chance by the islanders on sunday - and there would be more than a few guys who slam their hand down on their couch or at the bar and clench their teeth as they let out a "Damn You Fluery".

It's the way Pittsburgh treats goalies and quarterbacks.

I actually saw a Devils fan refer to Fleury as "the least talented goalie in the NHL" earlier today.

This seems to be a common phenomenon. Fleury is quite possibly one of the most underrated players in the whole league.

Then they'd just claim that Fleury is the worst Conn Smythe winner ever and that the trophy is a sham.

I have been thinking this way too. I am betting the Pens continue to play a solid defensive game and will be in a lot of 2-1 3-2 games and Fleury is going to the difference. I think that the Isles series might open up a bit, but the rest of the way will be different.

It would be awesome seeing MAF holding the Conn Smythe above his head with that goofy grin!

Which, in turn, means he can't be overrated because nobody is rating him highly to begin with. It's almost at the point now where you could say Fleury is somewhat underrated by virtue of him being labelled as overrated by so many hockey fans.

So about Fleury, he sucked hard last year as a combination of everyone not having any focus, BJ sucking even worse which lead to too many games played and the defense letting up horrible shots and screens.

Well, he had to suck on an individual level as well but you don't have that kind of playoff meltdown on the back of one person, it's a team-wide failure.

Almost all of the players in the NHL only played a 1/2 season. With the added rest, it's gonna be hard to pin a 'over-used' tag on any player.

In Fleury I trust!

Maybe Nabokov? He started 41 of 48.

All MAF has to do is play solid. Don't look shaky on the easy shots and remain strong on the hard shots.
