I don't know how this can be blowing your mind. It's been the game plan for opponents since at least the 24/7 years. Go after him, he take undisciplined penalties, pouts or plays worse. How many penalties have the refs given islanders that go after him after every whistle? I'd get pretty annoyed after a while too.

Dupuis had support for years before getting his appreciation society (well deserved). It was a slow transition not a flip of the penguin switch.

It's strange, because you would think making him angry would have the opposite effect--I mean, he doesn't end up going into a shell when he gets challenged, he actually gets more physical, to the point where he forces things and hurts his game. Sometimes, this happens:

Right there with the rookie Crosby OT goal as my favorite "**** you Flyers" moment.

The #1 center in the world continues his domination of the game, especially when it counts

though i think the beginning of that play was a big contributor to why he was such a catastrophe against detroit that year. richards knocked something loose there.

Good point shmenguin. I also think a lot of people tend to forget what a catastrophe Therrien was in that series (against Babcock) as well. I still remember that interview Christine Simpson did with him during game 6. She asked how DET was getting their matchups (because we had home ice) and MT looked like his head was about to explode in frustration.

sykora also got wrecked by downie on a cheap shot in that series. it was right after a goal, so it went under the radar, but after that scumbag moment, sykora was neutralized (save his game 5 moment)
