Playoff rituals or traditions

Postby no name on Wed May 01, 2013 9:13 am

Any one have playoff routines or rituals you follow.

Got my penguins flag hanging like always. Tiki torches on the back porch. SOme food will rise to the top and be my playoff snack. This year i will try to keep it healthy. Phone will be by my side so i can text my friends during the game.

I always have my penguins jersey/hoodie combo on and I only eat during the intermissions when I can take it off. And, if the pens get behind by 2 or more goals I put the hood up and go into the "Dome of Solitude" until they decide to play winning hockey again.

I don't really. I'll go get a case of beer today and then stick with that beer for the duration of the playoffs. For continuity between being at the games and being at home, its probably best to get labatt.

When I had time, I used to watch one of the 10 greatest games before each game. Now i'll probably get home, go running, then start drinking.

The only ritual I have is:

If the Pens lose, I will throw away whatever handout given at that game. Towel, placard, whatever, it goes in the trash.

If the Pens win, I keep the handout. If it's a towel, I drape it over the back of my couch (I honestly can't remember how that one started). Anything else gets stacked on my desk at home or hung in my office cube.

When the Pens are playing at home and they score, I crank up the volume on the surround sound for the horn and crowd noise for a few seconds.

i like to get wings from Buffalo Bills in New Kensington for at least one of the games. if not that i might make some combination of chicken nachos, queso dip, pretzel dogs, etc.

- let my beard grow of course. Just goatee. Trim only between series or if desperately needed.

- crack a beer at 0:00 of a series winning game.

- wear as much black/gold as I can and nothing that is a color of the other team (blue jeans not included)

I have a stuffed Iceburgh that watches the games with me. when the Pens are sucking I turn him away from the TV to avoid (stuffed) animal cruelty charges. :slug:

Got a fresh keg of Majic Hat on tap. Won't pour first beer until opening face-off.

Tried using a new home brew each of the past two years and we all know how that turned out.

The past few years, it's been 'find a bar in New Orleans that actually knows what hockey is' followed by a week of bribing our TV truck engineer to patch in Versus for 2nd round games. This year, the bribing will begin with Game 4 and hopefully end with Game 4.

Same shirt/jersey, only switch when they lose. Playoff beard that gets super itchy. Listen to Mike Lange during clinch games.

Give up fishing on game nights.

I drink, but that's not really a tradition, more like a way of life. Tonight I think it'll be Yards Brawler or Spaten lager

Pens Playoff Traditions

- playoff beard officially starting today
- seating during the game, if winning then status quo, if losing, change it up.
- do not allow Pens bashers to be in the same room
- be sure to not jinx things, talking about shutout while one happening, etc etc
