Bennett in for Kennedy??? Brilliant!!!

Also, Bennett is a lot more of a physical player than he appears at first glance. I think opponents under-estimate him because he looks like a skinny young kid that poses no threat.

The young kid who was not even expected to be in the lineup comes out, scores the first goal, and sets the tone for the game and the series. I love it!!

BB could turn out to really be something special. Every year in the playoffs, there seems to be a rookie on one of the teams that breaks out and contributes in a major way. Given the fact that he has adjusted so fast to the physical play and the pace of the game, this is likely not a fluke. Maybe he is arriving a little earlier than we all expected.

Just for discussion sake:

Say Sid is back in and Neal is out for a bit.

Do you go

14-87-9
19-71-12
10-16-24

or

14-87-9
10-71-12
19-16-24

or

9-87-12
14-71-19
10-16-24

I choose option 2. (Although option 3 puts Bennett at his natural RW position)

Good point, Neal must have wanted both:
Iginla on Malkin's line
Iginla at his natural position

Problem solved.

Bennett's really good. What a luxury it is to have a guy who's on the bubble but can step in for an injured top six guy and perform at a high level. He had a really impressive rookie year without getting handed prime opportunities. That's the sign of someone who belongs in the NHL. I was surprised Bylsma played him over Kennedy but it was the right move.

It was a great coaching decision, and Bylsma came right out and said that Bennett earned the right to play. For a coach to bench a player with a Stanley Cup ring in favor of a rookie with limited experience really says something. The organization and the coaches obviously are high on Bennett and like what they see. Knowing Bylsma, it was Bennett's physical play in addition to his skill that he really was impressed with. A game winning goal on his first shift and first shot is obviously a nice bonus, but I think he'll be a very good player here for hopefully a very long time.

It was an obvious coaching decision that was fortunately finally made when it mattered. Kudos to Bylsma.

i don't know how he does it, but bennett knocks guys on their butts with some regularity. he's just a well-rounded player. wouldn't be surprised to see him on the PK some day.

Yeah, in addition to his great hockey IQ, the kid has a knack for avoiding hits and for leveraging himself to knock guys around, at least enough to win battles.

Impressive debut, to say the least.

When he picks up the weights this off-season he is going to bulk up and be a beast.

Isn't Bennett already up over 200 lbs...I don't see a need for him to put on a ton more weight.
