I don't think one could answer this without more evidence or games played.

Yeah, I think it's too early to tell.
Right now I still lean with 24-11-48 but it's close. very close.

I second this motion. But, my extreme man-love for all things Morrow has me leaning heavily in his favor.

I think I have to give the edge to '13 because of Morrow. His experience and drive to win a Cup puts it over the top.

But FC44 is right. I need to see more. Nobody could cycle like the '09 3rd line. It was amazing to watch...

That line scored some HUGE goals in the Cup run. Hopefully we can bump this poll in June.

All the makings though...

new toys are fun, but ugh.

at this moment, it's not even a little bit close. this 3rd line has serious work to do to match that one. sutter isn't a real offensive threat and cooke is 4 years older. morrow is better than kennedy of course, but not enough to make up for the gap between sutter and staal.

I figured that I had fallen asleep and missed the entire playoffs somehow. There was a post about Murray having a good playoffs and pricing himself out of the Pens lineup and now this thread...

I have no problem with discussion at all, but I'm just surprised these things are happening so quickly...or appear to be...I hope the Pens aren't looking any further ahead than the opening faceoff of game 2. Unlike us...I'd guess we're in the Eastern Conference Finals and up three games to none.

These threads at least balance the doom and gloom of the "fire Bylsma" due to yet another early postseason exit again this year that were so popular on Tuesday. Balance is good.

They aren't even the best 3rd line on their own team?

Apples and oranges. Staal's line was another scoring threat that was hard to play against because they possessed the puck. Sutter's line will kill you and then maybe score. Both have advantages. If Morrow completely shuts down the other teams best player every series by knocking the **** out of them every single shift that's better than scoring goals for a 3rd line wing.

Kennedy sucks.

I really just wanted to leave this post at that, but Cooke-Staal-Kennedy was so amazing. I have a hard time not going with that.

I'd rather have Staal of 09 in the defensive zone than Sutter. Seems a bit ironic, but I think the 2013 line will offer more in the offensive zone. Too early to tell.

Morrow - Sutter - Cooke

Why? Because Tyler Kennedy isn't even NHL quality without playing beside Jordan Staal's big body. Cooke is a push, so you have Morrow so much better than TK that it's not even worth talking about. Sutter isn't even worse than Jordan Staal. Just better at Staal at some things, and slightly below him at others. Sutter fits this team better.

With all do respect for the 2009 3rd line, that was completely huge and clutch in games 6 & 7...

I'll take the 09 version of Staal, Cooke and Kennedy. First off, they won the cup that year and second last year's version is just leaving a bad taste in most people's mouths. I think they were more concerned with scoring goals than preventing them....as evidenced by the number of goals scored in that series.

compared to the rest of the team, that line didn't do too bad, defensively last year.

i looked at the numbers from 09. i was surprised to see that line wasn't terribly productive, offensively during the playoffs. i guess they were just involved in big goals. this video has most of the big moments of the playoffs, and you'll be surprised how many involved tyler kennedy being on the ice.

and by the way, this is just an overall awesome video so you should watch it immediately regardless of all this discussion.
