Who was on Strakas line in '93?

I can't exactly remember.... Was it Tocchet and Mullen?

With checking lines, it's not so much about how many you score, but when you score them. That line in 2009 was special, but it lost it's magic after that, and was completely ineffective last season.

So it will come down to timely scoring and big penalty kills, maybe the occasional shorthanded goal.

as a unit, they only played about half the season together last year because of staal and kennedy injuries. during that time, they were very potent, offensively. more than they ever had been. their puck possession gradually got worse since 09, but they still played effectively together up through last year.

Staal lit it up with Sullivan and Dupuis for most of last year.
The year before that after the injury apocalypse, wasn't it Kunitz/Staal/Kennedy as line 2 (or, well, 1) in Kennedy's career year?

yeah...about this thread...

this line isn't going to work. at least not against a team that has the islanders' speed. matt coke appears to be the fastest player on this line. read that again. speed aside, sutter seems to be about as bad as it gets at a puck possession game - even when he manages a rare appearance slogging his way into the offensive zone, he doesn't have it.

you can't keep these guys together in this series. bad things will continue to happen.

Well, Sutter was demoted to the 4th line today so not sure this thread works anymore.

LOL. Is there anyone out there who still thinks Sutter is better than Jussi? ANYONE?

One of those lines has a cup, the other doesn't (yet....). Going with '09.

Hard to argue with the '09 line when Staal was committed to playing defense. Dude was an absolute monster that year.

It's equally hard to have this argument since Dan Bylsma doesn't know who he's rolling out there as his third line next game.
