Penguins peaked too early

Postby Idoit40fans on Thu May 09, 2013 8:59 am

Its unfortunate that they hit their stride so early in March. It was pretty easy to see a letdown coming when that happened. I'm surprised people aren't talking about it more now, since so many people called it then. Discuss.

It's a team of dudes who peaked in high school.

Completely agree, and I remember Errey mentioning it off the air on one of the online streams to Steigy.

It isn't like the Pens were playing lights out during that time frame. Several games they would show up for 20 minutes, get a few bounces and walk away with a win. They had a lucky streak but I'd hardly call it peaking. I thought they looked much better in the 10 games or so leading into the playoffs, at least in the sense of playing a more complete game.

We play well in the meaningless regular season. When the playoff come we choke. Simple as that.

If Crosby didn't get injured (along with Neal and Malkin) and the new players were allowed to gel, this team may still be peaking.

Well at least the core of this team has been to the finals twice and won the cup once, which is more than the Sharks can claim. However it makes this even more frustrating; watching a team/players which has won big playoff games in the past, now seemingly become unglued at the slightest hint of adversity.

It's not like every team who has ever won the Cup has ridden a 10 game winning streak to the postseason. They were fine and then the sieve who masquerades as an NHL goalie decided to do his Dan Cloutier homage.

So, they had a plucky streak going?
