He did, and my stories about being totally humiliated in '75, '82, and '93 calmed him down. Believe it or not, I think he can actually be called a positive acquaintance now.

You just have to explain to folks it's not personal it's fandom. The isles fans got a big kick out of my Pitt/WVU stories. Especialy the one where my bro punched me in the mouth for attending Pitt.

Hey, you gotta be a fan no matter who your allegiance is for. :)

Good to hear not all Isles fans are twerps. Kudos for turning around a bad situation.

Do you think the Isles will consider changing goalies? Not much talk about it because the Isles have played so well in front of him, but really Nabokov has been the worst goalie in the playoffs, its not even close.

No way they go with Poulin. He sucks worse than Nabakov.

Applause to them for turning this ship around mid-game.

Most encouraging aspect was that they finished at their strongest. Everyone was skating harder, passes crisper, much more forward.

Got some gumption back.

Someone needs to buy me tickets for every home game.

5-0 with 4 shutouts at games I've been at.

Still need to win one more. Winning Game 1 big didn't break the Isles, neither will this game.

Nielsen left the game w/a lower body injury...that would be another big loss for them like MacDonald was. He's their best defensive center and has been matching up against Crosby or Malkin.

Any chance we can get Dolph Lundgren to lace 'em up?

They're basically in the same situation the Pens were in last year. No choice but to stick with their shaky starter and hope they outscore the Pens.

Sid's reaction to comparing his goal to Mario's was epic. Girly laugh, "Oh no, he went through guys and stickhandled past the goalie I think. Mine was just a simple move and a pretty basic shot."

Amazing when you stop being arrogant and claiming "we need to play the system better".

The adjustments were very evident tonight and scratching his favorites in Glass and Eaton were long overdue.

... except they did play the system better. They won puck battles, they didn't turn the puck over, they controlled gap space... Breakout was reminiscent of the one from last game.

The only difference between this game and Game 4 was goaltending and managing the puck.

One thing I noticed at the game today that I haven't noticed before: Vokoun only makes saves when the shot is on the frame. What I mean by that is that he covers the net really well, but if the shot is off target, he let's it fly by into the corner. One shot in particular i thought had a chance of going in. Vokoun reacted and stuck out his left pad but only to just outside the post. The shot went wide and the pens created a breakout from it. It's a huge difference when you watch Fleury. MAF is so athletic that he makes pad saves even when the shot isn't a danger to go in.

With a team like the Pens who aren't very good at clearing the front of the net, kicking out shots that aren't going in cause a lot of problems. It gives the opponent second chances that shouldnt be second chances because they are off the frame. This might be why Fleury looks average in playoff games where teams crash the net to the nth degree. Vokoun lets pucks miss the net when they are missing the net, and that alone kills much of the forecheck that the isles might have going. It's keeps rebound opportunities to a minimum and even can help with the breakout when shots ring off the corner glass.
