That's what happens when he is forced to be the dependable one. Despres also looks more comfortable with him as well.

What a beautiful thing watching Tomas play the puck. All I have to say is MAF, take your skates off and get comfy.

Derrick Pouliot is a combination of Alex Goligoski offensive skills an Kris Letang's fiesty-ness and transition game.

He's going to be the next Neidermayer.

Cool it. I'm high on Pouliot too but chill. People thought Tangradi was going to be the next Kevin Stevens.

I'm not a part of Fleury Nation per se, but IMO Fleury would have gotten the shut out in this game as well. Despite his horrible gaffs, he's played statistically better than last year. If I'm Fleury, I'm pissed that my team let me down so bad in games 2,3,and 4; though Fluery being Fleury, he probably puts it all on himself (which is not a personality trait that benefits a goalie - I'd much rather have a goalie that blames everything on his team).

The Tim Thomas approach to goaltending.

I am a big Fleury supporter, but one of his problems is when the team plays poorly in front of him, he usually overcompensates trying to bail them out. Getting himself into more trouble than he should.

And he is far too willing to throw himself under the bus. Even when his teammates don't/won't.

Last night I noticed Letang and especially Sid went out of their way to say that while Vokoun played well, they also played better in front of him. Made points of saying that hadn't been the case in previous games.

Vitale got injured, which was the initial reason for him being out of the lineup.

Truth is, the Pens are so deep in talent (diverse), and now that they are somewhat healthy, it is a luxury and I'm sure that depth will be called upon.

.

Personally, I think you hit the nail on the head. The star players have nights where they try to make every pass a highlight reel goal, which leads to turnovers. The turnovers lead to more shots. Then I think Fleury gets in his head that he is going to make every SAVE look like a highlight save and ends up giving up big rebounds. He gets caught out of position and lets in a goal off a shot that never should have happened in the first place. He lets in a couple of those and then he over compensates by trying to be even MORE of a superstar goalie. and the cycle repeats. Him sitting and watching Vokoun play solid positional goal should be very helpful. He needs to realize he just needs to be solid and make the boring good-position saves.

My Thoughts:

Bylsma made every adjustment I wanted him to. Didn't expect it after so many postseasons without major adjustments but it paid off. Role the same lines and roster next game.

Don't understand how it took so long to get TK in the lineup, I would have had him in over Glass by Game 3. Vitale was a welcome addition as well although personally I would have rather seen Jokinen but obviously Vitale paid off. I feel bad for Jokinen since he has done nothing but give 110% and be awesome since we acquired him but this team is so deep that not everybody who deserves to will find the ice. If this lineup is what it takes to play playoff-style hockey, so be it.

Unlike Game 1, Pens only got better and better as the game went on (Game 1 started off on fire and got worse). I hope this is a good sign and we carry that effort and confidence into Game 6. Nassau will be insane, but I wonder what they'll do without their precious "Fleury" chant since a Vokoun chant won't really work and if they try to start "Koun" it'll probably just be mistaken by most of their fans for boos.

Pleas end this tomorrow, a Game 7 might give me a heart attack.

Fun Fact: Douglas Murray has more goals this postseason than Ovechkin

the value of our depth isn't simply in how stacked our lines are top to bottom on any given night so much as it is in the ability to shuffle who sits and who plays in order to ensure the right matchup an to keep everyone motivated. tk and vitale came out like gangbusters because they were rested and motivated- as will bb and jj if they are pressed into action again. if your scratches are guys who are just fringe nhl players, you can only afford to mix it up in the event of an injury, and even then you suffer a major drop in talent. we've got proven nhl players at the ready at all times.

It feels good to know if pens lose it won't be because of goaltending. It was so painful watching Iggy squandered next to Malkin and finally can check that off the list. Things aren't looking up and we should see the disgruntled commnents disappear. IT FEELS FLARKING GOOD!!

I agree they established a good forecheck but I'd put that down to Cooke playing some extremely hard hitting hockey - he's been a force throughout the series. My point is more that Sutter and TK's styles and abilities don't mesh. Sutter seems to need greater support from his wings through the nuetral zone. He's been invisible in an Eaton kind of way which for Eaton is great, but I have higher expectations of Sutter. TK and Vitale work best when they 'just go' rather than try to think too much.

This.

Geno happier. Iggy happier. Neal happier. Kunitz I don't know but he's not exactly being demoted to the bums.

Fun observation that won't and shouldn't happen, but the Pens could actually field four scoring lines:

Dupuis-Crosby-Iginla
Kunitz-Malkin-Neal
Morrow-Sutter-Cooke
