If Pens don't play better this series, then this will quickly be the outcome.

Sens aren't going to hemorrhage goals like the Islanders.

They also aren't going to generate scoring chances like the Islanders.

Hopefully the Sens lack of speed compared to the Isles won't result in as much pressure to create those awful turnovers. The pens should also be able to control the puck more at the other end...something that lacked for long stretches in the first round.

Just think that this series is gonna be extremely painful. Sens are gonna give the Pens all they can handle.

And that's the way the playoffs usually are and should be. I loved seeing the pens dominate the east in 2008 and the Canes in 2009...but series' like that just aren't very common.

I thought the Isles series was going to be a lot easier for the Pens than it was, and maybe i'm not learning from that, but I think there are a lot of reasons to think that this will be an easier series for the Pens than that was.

It's worth noting that the Sens played the worst playoff team in the NHL. They didn't just blow through some 2 seed. I wanted the Sens more than the Isles before the playoffs. I know the Pens have to play better, but we have the talent to dominate this team.

Also, the Penguins had a very small shot differential during the regular season. They have an abnormally high shooting percentage (because of how talented our offense is) and a great Power Play. All season, we relied on those qualities to outscore teams. Sure, we also did not give up 4 goals a game with idiotic defense.

Speed gives the pens fits...and it's why TOR could really be a bug if we have to face them. Root for the (slow as h-e-double hockeysticks) B's to win tonight.

Yeah, I'm done underestimating anyone. We could be playing Edmonton and i would fear for my life. If i'm a player, after THAT SERIES, i'm so focused it's insane.

Montreal fizzled out at the end of the year anyways, Ottawa caught them at the right time and the Eller injury seemed to affect the team psyche. I think the Pens in 5

I do agree with you about Montreal because they looked awful down the stretch and they had so many huge injuries in the playoffs. With that said though I still have little confidence in the Pens right now, I can understand losing a game or 2 against the Isles but they looked really bad in at least 3 of those games.

My big problem is the lack discipline the pens seem to have along with the stupid ill advised passes players like Letang keep on making. How someone that talented can make plays like that is beyond me. Geno also had a horrible turnover obviously and the Pens seemed to never be able to have the same energy for 2 consecutive games. Until the pens can put forth a consistent effort I wont have much faith in them so I wont even bother predicting this series right now because it all depends on which Pens team shows up.

Do the Pens learn from round 1? I hope so

Despres played well but I'm not opposed to this. Ottawa is slower and meaner. Also, rotating players in and out gives them an occasional boast like it did TK in game 5.

This is what I was saying earlier. Ottawa looked dominant because they were playing a bad team...a team that likely would have fallen out of the playoff contention given a full season.

I'm not to saying that Ottawa isn't a very good team; they are and will be a challenge, but I think we're dealing with the opposite dynamic than that of the last series. Everyone underestimated the Islanders and now I think we're overestimating the Senators.

Simple facts about Ottawa:
-Weaker offense than the Isles
-Weaker defense than the Isles
-Slower than the Islanders
-Arguably best goaltending in the NHL
-More physical than the Isles

This series is going to be the Penguins vs. Anderson. They have to break Anderson's psyche.

Definitely a fact. The Senators overall GAA and Save % is due to their goaltending. They allowed the 8th most Shots Against in the league. The Islanders had a very underrated defense. The Islanders allowed 28.2 shots against which was one of the lowest in the league. The bottom 10 to be exact.

Intangibles that stats don't show would be their mobility, effective transition game and ability to generate offense. That being said, they allow plenty of shots and the perception of how good their defense is, is completely inflated due to the strength of their goaltending.

The Penguins biggest challenges in this series is the Physicality and Goaltending. This will likely be a lower scoring series overall than the series with the Islanders. The Penguins match up better overall with the Senators than they did with the Islanders.
