Our beloved Penguins were mostly outplayed and outcoached in the first round, but managed to win in six.
Islanders outshot Penguins by five shots per game, 32.8 to 27.8. At times, the Islanders dominated.
Senators meanwhile, managed to outscore the Canadiens by 20 to 9, but in reality it wasn't easy for them either, although they won in five games.
Canadiens outshot Senators by more than five shots a game, 36.0 to 30.8. In game one, the Canadiens shot 50 times - 1/3 of the shot total for the Senators in the entire series. In the 2nd period in game 1, Canadiens outshot Senators 27 to 7.
This is good for the Penguins I think, as it is not expected that Senators can keep the constant pressure on them like the Islanders were able to. Regardless of how our coaching staff manages ("let's get to our game"), by virtue of this match up, the Penguins should be able to improve their puck possession against the Senators. This fixes many problems that were evident in the first round.
