I'll agree to this. I also think that he plays through a lot of injuries that we never hear about. A lot of them.

Definitely agree. He's had a real down season but looked very solid tonight. Great to see from him.

Hahaha I love some people on this board. Win a series against a tough Islanders team...."OMG WE DIDN'T DOMINATE I HATE THE PENS, WE'LL NEVER WIN AGAIN WAHHHH." Dominate Ottawa game one....."OMG WHAT A BORING GAME WAHHHHH!!" I miss the days when Pens fans were just excited to be in the playoffs and knew it was a grid. We had two years where we peaked at the right now and now lots of people think the playoffs are some cakewalk and every series should be a sweep with 6-0 scores every game. Annoying.

Yeah, the style he's played for so many years has taken its toll on him. Hopefully the long off-season and short season did him some good. Loved his game tonight.

That was a real good effort tonight. Good on the Pens for not slowing down even with Vokoun serving up a Fleury special. Aside from that, he was his usual not flashy but effective self.

A great start to the series, just like last round. Hopefully this time they don't sleep walk through the rest of the series. This series doesn't have to be that difficult.

Only thing I didn't like tonight was some stupid penalties. Neal has got to cut it out.

Can he practice keeping the Senators from embellishing?

-Great game from Orpik
-Our gap control was MUCH better tonight (less speed)
-Malkin found his brain
-we dominate special teams

If we can keep pace 5v5 and continue to dominate on the PP, I really can't see Ottawa standing a chance in this series. This isn't like the Isles--the Senators just played 5 games last week, they knew what they were getting into and just couldn't seem to do much with it. Vokoun had a quiet 35 save performance tonight.

We have the league leader in Points (13), Goals (6), GAA (1.28), SV% (.962  ), and Assists (10).

This was also against a much slower team than the Islanders. Orpik's legs were showing some age in that first round. Most of the Pens looked much slower against the Isle. They were a fast team. If they can get better play in net and some other pieces they will be tough for many years ahead. :face:

Great win. Team played solid.

I don't get the criticism of Neal. The penalty on Karlsson wasn't a penalty... at all... ESPECIALLY in the playoffs. You could watch a replay and find 50+ things more deserving of a call that never got one. The 2nd might have been silly, but the Sen interfered with Neal. Ottawa got a charity call there too b/c Neal is entitled to his line on the ice. The Senator can't set a pick on him. I found nothing wrong with those plays from Neal's side other than maybe the 2nd he could have just went around, but in game 1, up by 3, I'm fine with him basically showing that he's there to go through you, not around you.

To put it in perspective, whoever tripped Dupuis into the boards on some incidental contact was just as, if not more, worthy of a call. None was made.

I wonder if the Sens will talk about how Gyrba should be mad at his teammate for the buddy pass up the middle... Or is Melnyk going to launch another forensic investigation on Orpik?

Sutter makes his linemates look bad. Give Morrow a decent center and he'll be fine.

36% on the PP
92% on the PK

Those will both regress....but, sheesh.

HNIC was going on and on in period 2 about Pens play not working. And Crosby was not on, and blabla
To me it felt like Pens never felt the need to get going. They were up 2-1 but Sens kept playing the game like they had no need to win, and just wanted to counterattack. So Pens did the sensible thing, not doing their beloved stretch passes and just kept it simple even if it meant they wouldn't get much offensive zone time.

I will say that Sutter has not looked good in the playoffs so far. However he's not going to sit in favor of Jussi because Sutter is the future and Jussi is not... Although Despres is sitting and Engelland is back in.

That didn't feel much like a playoff game. Good win though. I'll take "boring" games like last night over the ones from the Islander series any day.

Need to win 3 more and on to the next series.
