will be disappointed with anything less than a cup win. probably be happy if they make the SC finals though.

As long as they keep runing the 2-1-2 swing with the stretch pass I will keep watching.

Why tie something used in a breakout into a forecheck system? :pop: Or rather how would you do that?

Trying to feed the trolls. I am bored. This 24 extra hours between games is boring.

Every game where Dick Tarnsrom isn't leading the team in scoring and where Shane Endicott is not considered a hot prospect is a success....

Any thread with a question for a title reminds me of "When will it be over for you?"

Anyway, yeah, Cup.

Seeing them play, cannot be satisfied losing a series to Sens, Rags, or Bruins.

Also seeing them play, anything can happen in a series vs Chicago or the Kings.

Anything less than 6 games in the SCF would not be good enough. Unless we won that in 4 of 5 of course.

I am not happy that you included that last sentence, I already had my smart-ass post written in my mind.

The evolution of a team goes:

1. Losers happy to get to .500.
2. .500 happy to fight for a playoff seed as a bubble team.
3. Bubble team satisfied to squeak in the playoffs.
4. Low seed happy to win a round.
5. Better than average team believing they can win a couple rounds, maybe even get hot and in Finals. But at this point, now a perennial playoff team that expects more than 1 round.
6. Team that is consistently near top seeds, and expects to be in Conference Finals at minimum.
7. Team that has enough talent and depth to challenge for a Cup every year.

The Pens are #7. Anything less than a Cup Finals appearance is failure. It's as high as you get with team evolution. Nobody can ever EXPECT a Cup win, since generally the team you will face is similarly as good as yourself.

I don't think thats accurate for NHL. You can get into the playoffs and be below .500. In fact, looking to last year, you can be below .500 and win the cup.

Obviously I want them to win the Cup and would be disappointed if this team didn't.

But in order for me to say "hey this team did pretty good", it would have to be the Stanley Cup Finals. And only if they lost a close series to the Blackhawks.

So about "mortgaging" the future again, would anyone here trade Dupuis right now for Armstrong, Christensen, Esposito, Daultan Leveille and Jimmy Hayes?

you could throw in Hossa and I still would not make that. Duper has been a pleasant surprise.

Anything less than The Cup will be a disappointment. I believe this year and next year is the last chance they have with the core of players they have now, because of the salary cap decline. After next year, Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Orpik, Martin, Fleury, Neal, Dupuis, and Kunitz won't all fit under the cap with a decent team around them.

I will be really disappointed if we don't make it out of the East, and I'm never that optimistic about any of my teams. Without inter-conference play there are no numbers to back this up, but I suspect that the West is a lot tougher than the East.

I call it the Wales Final because I hate how the NHL tries to destroy its own glorious history, not to prove my non-noob (wtf does that mean?) status to message board posters.

You do realize that before the Conferences were called Wales and Campbell, there were East and West divisions right?

Wouldn't that be the 8 teams who lost 1st round series?

So, the first loser would be the runner up. The second loser would be whoever you consider to be the third place team and so on... amirite?
