Because TV.

I'm pretty sure I saw an ad during the Chicago/Detroit game 5 this past Saturday that said that the Stanley Cup Finals will begin on Saturday June 15th on NBC.

This seems to follow suit with what is found here, as NBC would prefer to have game 1 on a weekend and not mess with the schedule of any of their prime time shows:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Stanley_Cup_Finals

The NBC Sports Group's coverage in the United States will be different than previous seasons: the NBC broadcast network will now televise Game 1 and then the final four games, while the NBC Sports Network will broadcast Games 2 and 3.

If it is true that the final doesn't start until June 15th, then they don't need to start this round until this Saturday in order to have a game every other day.

If they're starting Saturday, that works out nicely for me. I can wait to drive up on Saturday afternoon and not worry about taking any time off work.

And no, I'm not leaving early.

So it's a stupid idea because of traffic for you personally? I mean get that, I love the 7 starts. Work, quick dinner and a few drinks and the game starts. Home to watch the news and unwind.

But we all bashed the NHL and Gary for not having legit TV deals. Now that they do these are things we have to deal with and that is what the networks want. They aren't morons, they have to wait to see who is playing who so the networks can get what they want. It's no different than any other sport.

Boston, LA and Chicago are huge markets. I am sure that causes some planning.

As long as there are no back-to-back games during this round~ fine.
Boston is the opponent , not the schedule. :D

The majority of this relates to the schedule for the Stanley Cup Finals. NBC had the dates set for the finals as soon as the lockout was lifted. There was definitely slight flexibility if all series ended much earlier than expected, but there is no reason for them to adjust it as this point. So they need to delay the start of these series so there is not a gap before the SCF.

Penguins won't practice today, and probably could squeeze in a Caribbean cruise before Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final against Boston

I can't get no satisfaction from this!

BTW, Pens have the best NHL record in July.

Well, I did it. Despite my better judgment, I spent some time on HF on the Pens, Bruins, and *shudder, gasp* the main board. :face: I'm dumber for it, and I'm angrier, too. I want the Pens to shut up that overrated, self-righteous, Original Prix fan base more than ever.

If Chara-Seidenberg sticks, expect them and Krejci line vs. Malkin. Boychuk pair and Bergeron line vs. Crosby.

Hurrah....I have tickets for Game 1 and 2. Can't go to game one because of 2 kids in a recital. Knowing my luck, game 2 will be Tuesday just because that is the only other day this month I can't go to a game....
