Pens MVP thru two rounds?

Postby The Current One on Fri May 24, 2013 10:40 pm

Gotta go with Vokoun, with Crosby and Malkin right behind.

Jordan Staal. If not for him, we couldn't have afforded all the in-season upgrades.

Vokoun. Then Crosby, Malkin. In the same light, Letang is the best worst hockey player I've ever watched. Tied with Malkin in points, unreal.

Vokoun. AINEC. Pens were going to score regardless of who was in net.

Voukoun stabilizes everything, but Crosby is a man possessed on every shift and is producing. Martin is definitely unsung.

Spoiler:
So to answer your question I don't know

I still don't know how Crosby isn't running away with the playoff scoring lead. He's so dominant shift after shift.

As for unsung hero, that has to go to Matt Cooke. He's been fantastic despite only putting up 3 points so far.

I agree with this, except I think Malkin moved ahead of Dupuis with his play the last 2 games plus the OT. Just dominant two-way play. Spectacular tonight.

Martin has been almost perfect outside of the collective team brain-fart that occurred in Game 3. Orpik playing well alongside him too.

If Flower continued against the Islander, the Pens would be out. Vokoun.

Matt Cooke has in no way been MVP but him and Duper have been their two most consistent fwds. Martin has probably been the most consistent D man.

How are people picking Vokoun on a team that scores 4 or more goals in almost every game? Vokoun has made some good saves, but he's the worst goalie of the goalies left. How many actual chances did Ottawa have these last two games? I think they had less real quality chances than Pittsburgh had goals. He's been good enough, but certainly was nothing spectacular in this series. Game 6 of the Islanders series was the only game he has won for them.

Paul Martin and Crosby have been very good in every game. Letang has had some bad plays defensively, but has 16 points in 11 games. That's a ton for a defenseman in the playoffs. Those would be my top 3 picks. Dupuis has also been solid. Neal is coming on strong too. I'd probably have Vokoun behind all of them and Malkin.

:thumb: This, with a nod to Sid, who certainly cannot see as well as he'd like to out of that cage. And an honorable mention to Martin, who is doing it all, PP, PK, even strength, getting points, shutting down the top opposing players. A year ago, I said he was one of the most overpaid players in the game. This season, he has been worth every penny.

But at the end of the day, this team in all honesty may not have beaten the Islanders without #92.

You know what is cool?

You all have such different players and ideas on whom is MVP for the PENS.

You know that speaks to the depth and level that certain players are rising to. This group has the special feeling. I didn't feel it with them at first, but as we progress, it's feeling special and players are stepping up.

Next round will be a big test.

I gotta go with Vokoun, Martin, Crosby/Malkin, Dupuis, Neal, Letang... In that order of power ranking.

Vokoun. He played well enough to win with only 1 goal support in game 3 but they crapped the bed with 30 seconds to go. He makes the timely save every time when we need it. It's not like we go up 4-0 then sit back. He has made a lot if great saves early to not get us in a hole and the forwards can just play their game and eventually put of 4 for a win.

I first had the feeling that this group was special back in the regular season in a game against Washington, I believe Cooke was called for a double minor and Pens killed it off and then scored minutes later to take the lead and won 2-1. I just remember having that feeling, even texted a friend about it, and that was before the trade deadline.

I guess his one bad turnover per game somehow outweighs Letang's otherwise spectacular play?
