Why do fans seem a little scared right now?

Postby MarioLives on Thu May 30, 2013 7:56 am

I was listening to sports talk radio and a lot of Pens fans were calling in talking about how they fear for Crosby and his concussions/Jaw as well as Malkin's health playing the Bruins?? Are the Bruins really this tough and bad or is there some weird misconception about the Pens being soft? I have not heard this type of talk all playoffs, until now.

The majority of people that i've seen post about it here have seemed to think the Pens would walk through the series. I think its going to be a tough series.

Why does it matter what any fans think/feel. We don't determine the outcome.

If thats your opinion, why do you have over 1000 posts on a discussion forum?

I agree with you. I think this is going 7. I guess my point was, this was the first time that I heard multiple callers talking about how they fear for the health of the Pens players. Seems weird to me to have that mind set. But, as others said on this thread, I guess that is what I get for listening to sports talk radio.....

The long layoff has some people a little anxious, me included. But I'm sure Bruins fans feel the same. This will be a huge task for the Pens, and the games will be very close. I just think the Pens have an edge and will manage to win 4 out of 7.

And as far as fearing for the health of players, remember that Bergeron is a walking concussion and Marchand had problems with that during the regular season. Under normal circumstances the Pens would not target these players, but if they would go after Sid's head, I'm sure that would change. The Pens have a handful of players who can and will respond to the physical game.

When you are off for 8 days people need something to talk about.

I'm pretty sure that Boston of all teams knows that the Pens have players who are capable of responding in kind to head targeting.

Don't base your opinion on what fans think based upon the sample size of callers into a sports talk radio show. People who call into those shows have less IQ points than a porcupine.

They know it all too well. The biggest challenge for Boston will be to maintain possession of the puck. The Pens are (slightly) faster, and what Chara gives them in size, Letang gives the Pens in his ability to skate and create offense by improvising. As long as the Pens don't get too cute and turn the puck over, they will win the series. If the Bruins go too deep into the trap, they will lose some of their ability to forecheck. It'll be interesting to see how they play it.

I sincerely believe there is a legitimate chance that the Pens sweep the Bruins. No team can beat the Penguins other than the Penguins themselves.

Is the offensive unit strong enough in backchecking and overall puck responsibility? That is effort and is largely within their control

Can Letang, Neal and Malkin keep their wits about them if the Bruins get physical? That is composure and is largely within their control

Vokoun is fourth among active Goalies in shutouts
Defense is as strong as I can recall with the additions of Murray and Eaton.
Niskanen and Orpik are both playing at a championship level
Martin and Letang are playing as well as any DMEN in the league
The PK is dramatically improved

Is the offense in the argument for the best ever assembled? I think they have an argument

This team has leadership and toughness oozing from them. Anyone using the word "scared" is wasting their energy in the wrong direction. This time should be spent enjoying a once in a lifetime team

This is such an arrogant stance. Any of the 3 remaining teams can beat the Penguins and it wouldn't necessarily be because the Penguins offered them games up on a silver platter. The 4 best teams in hockey are left standing, whoever wins will deserve to win.

Compiling the roster the Penguins currently possess should be illegal

If the 86' Oilers can lose in the 2nd round, the 13' Pens can lose in the Conference or Stanley Cup Final.

Quit insulting porcupines. People have too much time on their hands and tend to over think and analyze too much.

Look at the players we get to watch compete~ Pinch me! What should scare the others; every night, series, different players taking the lead role.

It is going to be a long tough series but I have full confidence in this team. Chara can only shut down one Pen. Depth prevails.

Alot of folks (myself included) were worried about the Senators as they appeared to be better than the Islanders and they had arguably the best goalie in the NHL this year, no to mention the best defenseman and potential coach of the year candidate.

We see where that went.

GO PENS GO! This is going to be a fun ride!

The scariest thing about this Penguin team is their compete level. They are hungry.
