Good article I thought: http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/spo ... es-689947/

Credit to PensBlog where I found the link for this article.

Didn't see a real good post to bump for this so started a new one.

I think he does a great job. I can't think of anyone better to replaced Barbero. Lets face it someone had to and the Pens brass made a good choice. Many years of continued success Mr. Mills.

Sidney Ca Roz Beeeeee from the Pittsburgh Pang uins

There's no doubt he's very talented and has the right voice for the job. Some of his pronunciations drive me crazy though. It took him a few years to get settled into the job but ehhhh I won't complain overall.

Meh. He's a little better than when he first started, but his style seems more suited to Monster Truck events and the WWE. He really needs to reevaluate his pronunciation of the team name.

Lets welcome your... Pittsburgh Panguins

I think he's awful, but no one cares and nothing will change because of it. So I've stopped caring about it.

He has improved and he is good for the style of P.A. guys that the NHL boasts now.

Talk about a tough act to follow, though. Barbaro was on another level.

He's awful. By far the worst pa I've ever personally heard. I'm not normally the type to be bothered by pa or announcers in general (never understand all the complaining of ppl I barely notice every game), but he negatively impacts the environment of going to a game for me

He is far from the worst... listen to some of the clowns around the league... there are much much worse out there.

I've grown used to him, but never really liked him a lot... but he's a big part of Pens games now so of course I'll support him

Listen to the LA Kings PA Announcer if you want a better appreciation for Mill.

Like others have said, Some of his pronunciations need to be tweaked but he has come a long way from the first season in Consol. Hope he continues to develop over the years.

If you're ever in Charlotte, the PA announcer for the Checkers (Wilson) is really good. He roams the crowd during the game with a hand mic and does a great job with announcements.

I'll never forget being at game 1 against the Islanders and hearing Mill get so overwhelmed with the torrent of 5 minute majors the refs were dishing out that he had to stop, sigh, and say "okay, lets try this again" (or something along those lines).

This. He has really improved since his first season. He'll never be John Barbero, but no one will. And that's OK.

The guy that bugs me is the one that took Steve Mears place at intermission. He is AWFUL.

NHL games turned into monster truck rallies sometime in the 90s. Mill contributes to that atmosphere, which makes his existence problematic.

Caps announcer is among the worst, IMO. Talk about Monster Truck Rally/WWF.

I don't think he really stood a chance to be really liked following Barbero. That and all the annoying advertising started with him too...not really his fault there. Although I do find myself going along with him saying POWERBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLL POOOOOOOOOOWERPLAAAAYYYYY.

Oh yeah, Justin Downs is dreadful. Sucks at calling highlights and ends each intermission with "we'll see what happens in the next period". The team can do much better if they're going to continue with the intermission reports.

Mill has gotten better with name pronunciations and toning down his style. I just can't stand his add-ons that Barbero never had to do, such as "Get on your feet and make it loud... here are your Pittsburgh Penguins". I'll forgive him if he's following a script but even so if the team is hitting the ice, I doubt the fans need prompted by the announcer to do this.

Yes he is. I have to believe that he has been instructed to announce in the style that he does , I am confident he is capable of changing it. Check out his credits , they're impressive. http://www.ryanmill.com/demos.html
His current style doesn't really bother me anyway.

Clearly the Pens should've hired Howard Finkel.

This is a little taste of his work. Not bad in my opinion. This is when we honored the return of the olympic players vs the Buffalo Sabers.
