Changes for next year? Don't read if you believe in unicorns

Postby Antonio on Mon Jun 03, 2013 10:08 pm

What changes do you want/think will happen next year?

If you believe that unicorns crap rainbows and this team will come back, then come post your thoughts next week while you continue to delude yourself until then.

I think Bylsma and Fleury gone (hopefully). Not sure who I would like to see as coach. We need a defensive minded coach. There is plenty of offense here that we will score without playing a mindless country club style with no discipline and no defense.

Martin needs to go. I've been of the opinion he's been terrible all playoffs. The game he scored the OT goal made everyone forgot how bad of a game he played...and in the new cap era - he's too much.

Don't think Martin is worth 7 Eaton's

Why are you even a fan?

What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...
The tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!

I say HCDB and Fleury will actually remain.

I say Iginla, Morrow, and Crankshaft are gone from the deadline signings. I think Dupuis is gone in free agency, with Bennett replacing him.

Matt Cooke will return.

The biggest change will probably be on the blue line. The Horse and Bortuzzo will be in the top 6. I think they might try to unload Paul Martin's salary. Nisky might be a goner as well.

I have been a die hard fan for 25 years. I live on the west coast and fly to Pit just to watch home games and go back. I am also not smoking a crack pipe and have been watching hockey long enough to know they won't win. They are down 0-2 to going back to Boston. Their offense has been terrible in each game. Their defense has been beyond atrocious. The power play literally has guys tripping over each other. The goaltending situation is a mess (although I think Vokoun is clearly the one who should play). They are getting out worked, out played and outcoached consistently for 2 games in a row. What logic makes you think suddenly some magic switch will flip and they will dominate in Boston? They are not going to beat this team 4 out of the next 6. Is it theoretically possible? Sure. Is it realistic? No. So, why not discuss, as fans, what we want to see for next year, and discussing what we like/don't like about the current team?

Because this team isn't dead. They are only going to be down 2 games. This team can win 4 of 6.

Fleury will remain simply because he's going to be nearly impossible to unload without using a buyout. The overhaul needs to start with the entire coaching staff - get rid of them all. Then start getting rid of some dead weight in the lineup... maybe give some younger guys a shot, especially on defense.

Its 4 of 5. I know that every time I have ever seen the road team take the first 2, I have considered the series over.

New coaching staff is my top desire. This team is a lot better than it plays consistently, so that comes back to coaching.

There is no coaching.

There is no accountability.

Guys make the same mistakes over and over and over for years on end, and they keep trotting them out on the next shift. As was stated before, Letang has free reign to do whatever he wants and sees no punishment for his constant mistakes.

DB's positive vibe can only go so far, there comes a time when you have to have a way to beat the trap and actually do some line matching instead of line juggling.

Won't happen:
- HCDB fired, that would be Shero's last resort. They got to the ECF, that's far better than a round 1 exit.
- Paul Martin tossed. He was almost in the Norris talk this year.

Might happen:
- Fleury traded, Luongo? *shrug* perhaps a scenery change is in order.
- Niskanen and Kennedy (his rights) dealt.
- I'd hate to see it, but I wouldn't be shocked if Malkin is traded. Not advocating it!!! But let's be real, there is no room for gigantic raises.

Probably will happen:
- Iggy, Morrow and Murray all wearing different sweaters next year. Thanks for coming!
- Cooke, Dupuis and Adams go bye bye.

Letang sucks this playoffs. Ok he scores a goal here and there but he jumps in deep and leaves a forward stranded on the point.

Letang never did strike me as being particularly bright, but he knows that playoff points equal dollar signs. He's trying to rack up huge offensive numbers to get a bigger contract, which is fine if the team is winning. And he's never been a good goal scorer.

They can, but game 3 is now a must win. It's gut-check time.

If they lose this series and Bylsma isn't fired I wouldn't be suprised if Geno will take the initiative to leave.

I think they resign dupuis i would be willing to give him close to kunitz numbers. I want to see a healthy dupuis crosby and kunitz for a year.

-bylsma will be back
-if we lose this series, iginla is gone, and dupuis is re-signed
-morrow might come back in kennedy's spot
-cooke is back at the same price
-either murray or niskanen is gone
-craig adams should be in the AHL, but he'll still be getting 8-9 minutes a night on the pens next year for some reason
-fleury is back, starting in game 1 of next season
-letang, malkin and sid are all safe

this isn't what "should" happen, but it's what i think will happen

It's 4 of 5. Sure, they can. Hell, the Blackhawks just did it last series. Will they? In the famous words of Captain Alfredsson, "I doubt it."

This. If they lost the first two on the road and were coming home, I'd have a lot more confidence. But when you lose your first two at home, and then head to Boston, I don't see it happening. Could go to 6 games, but they will have a very difficult time winning this series.

As for changes, for as much as I always stuck up for Fleury, it's time for him to move on. He is broken.

Letang, if you can sign him for what he is making now, keep him, but if he wants a big payday, see ya!

A team will vastly overpay for Letang. Look what we got for Go-go and Letang is head and should above him.

- HCDB gone
- Fleury unloaded, with Vokoun playing out the next year on his contract and Zatkoff/Hartzell given a chance
- Letang traded for a top 5-10 pick + extras. Use that pick to draft a forward
- Niskanen and Kennedy traded or not retained
- Morrow gone, Iginla resigned at a discount as I think he'd do better actually playing RW and getting top PP duties under a new coach
- Dupuis resigned
- Despres, Bennet, and Vitale given full time spots in the lineup
- Give Harrington a couple of call ups from WBS to get him ready for a 5/6 spot in 14-15

if we lose this series, you figure out when the greatest return for letang would come, and you trade him then. probably the draft. he'll be a 6-7 mill player (at least) in a couple years. you can't have someone eating up that money and those minutes who can't be trusted in big games.
