He went on Boston radio before the series and proclaimed that Rask is a mediocre goalie and the Pens would light him up. Apparently that created a big buzz around Boston. Surely Rask heard about it. Did it provide a little extra motivation for him? Possibly. I just wish Madden had kept his mouth shut instead of trolling on enemy airwaves.
Madden has also been Fleury’s biggest booster for years and yesterday said he would start Fleury last night. Wrong and wrong again!
This reminds me of Fox News’ Dick Morris who every night prior to the last presidential election declared that Romney would win in a landslide. Obama won easily and Morris was disgraced and removed from the air as an unworthy political commentator.
Madden isn't significant enough to create bulletin board material for an opposing team. Outside of Pittsburgh, he's a complete nobody or only for someone who gets their memory jogged by remembering that he was the fat idiot trying to be a pro wrestling commentator/wrestler in the WCW or insulting the hell out of LGP readers.
Didn't want to start a new thread so I'll add this here.... if you follow Tocchet this little gem appeared. There was a wall of tweets Tocchet put out basically stating his general view of officiating. The comment you see below is the very tail end of his view... so it is taken out of context, I just thought it was funny that Steigerwald chimed in with a zing. Looking forward to the upcoming conversation it may spur.
Rick Tocchet @RealRocket22 30m Players decide the game .
John Steigerwald @Steigerworld 16m @RealRocket22 Not calling the hook didn't let Malkin decide it. Helped Jagr decide it. Call 'em all.
until the NHL requires officials to call every possible penalty regardless of game situations or any other variable I believe the players will never fully decide the game. Once the NHL institutes a zero tolerance on refs who officiate to score or game situations this discussion will never die. I don't care if the games are 7 hours long 'cause no one is watching anyway. Players will adjust or they'll be gone, but enforcement is key here. The product on the ice would improve significantly and it wouldn't be as hard for the bandwagon/noob fan to understand, but I won't live to see this happen.
Tocchet was on the team that allowed David Volek to become famous. Not only that, I recall him stating, on DVE, before game six on the island, that the Pens would win game 6 and close it out. I remember the smug way he said it. So anything Tochett says goes in one ear and out the other.
