I'm calling us all out. All of us. Myself included.
We're Pens fans, and now more than ever we need to be exactly that.
Does being down 0-3 suck? Hell yes. Is it frustrating? Of course.
But we're Pens fans, and that means we need to support this team to the bitter end.
I was first exposed to the Penguins and hockey when I was about 6 years old in early 1989. My dad was a paramedic for the city of Pittsburgh and the Pens held a practice where the city workers were invited to attend. It was love at first sight.
Ever since then, the Pens have been an integral part of my life. I've cried the tears of joy, and I've loathed the bitter moments. I watched in awe as Mario Lemieux performed his many on-ice miracles, and I've endured the likes of Rico Fata and Kris Beech. To me, wearing the black and gold is a badge of honor, even if we're in the bottom of the rankings. Pens games in my household are a family affair, and hockey talk dominates the conversation annually from October until June. Everyone from my grandmother down through my son (19 months old today!) supports this team, regardless of whether or not we are down 0-3 or we're hoisting the Cup.
We're Pens fans. We're all Pens fans.
Let's all support this team as if tonight's the last game we'll watch in a while. Wear your black and gold. Share your story. Cheer until you lose you're blue in the face.
I love this team.
Let's Go Pens!
