More than anything, I hate losing to a team that we beat mercilessly for 8 of 12 periods and end up getting swept. The salt in the wound... Sid with another career threatening injury, we blew up our franchise goaltender, and we basically exposed the weaknesses of this team front to back.
I think that failure can be an excellent tool to motivate individuals and initiate change. Unfortunately, this is three consecutive disastrous endings, and the second that ended far short of expectations. I'm afraid that this team will make a series of adjustments that will change the product they put on the ice, but I'm also afraid they won't. I guess we'll see.
I count it as four. Even though the team that lost to Tampa was short-handed it's hard to take blowing a 3-1 lead and losing game 7 1-0 at home. We had the same issues for several years, we've a lot of older and slower forwards, keep making the same mental mistakes, there don't appear to be good forward options in the pipeline, our young guys didn't get much experience this year, we don't seem to "get to our game" when it counts, and we were badly outcoached in 3 of the past 4 post seasons (maybe all 4). I can't think that anyone is completely safe other than Sid and most likely Geno.
That said, I'll be right back watching these guys next year and hoping for different results.
