worst penguin playoff series of all time

Postby bdevido on Fri Jun 07, 2013 10:41 pm

does anyone think that lemieux or gretzky would have gone 4 straight games without a point? the blame is in many areas, but your so-called two best players in hockey need to do something over a 4 game stretch-period.

Is this a rub it in thread or a pitchfork and torch thread. I can't tell.

Its seems like the 2 mega star model might no longer be valid. Maybe we need more 4-5 million dollar players and one less 12 million dollar one.

The islanders/Volek loss was worse, IMO. The flyers series was even worse, i think.

But yeah, this was bad.

This was so much worse than the Flyers series to me. The Flyers series has bad just because it was the Flyers but come on. Not being able to score a single goal in two of the games and only one goal in the other two? Rask was good but he wasn't that good.

Lemiuex and Gretzky didn't go against goaltenders with massive pads either.

The Isles series was the worst. Too sudden. As much as we were everyone's pick to go this year, the 1993 team had it in the bag. Plus the heroics that we put up to force overtime... I'm still haunted by that.

If we played this good against the Flyers we would have steam-rolled them.

the majority of this problem was coaching not personnel. two magnificent centers, a 40g winger and two 20 to 30 goal wingers plus the one of the best offensive defenseman in the game, a great pk, a big solid d man, young talented fast wingers, etc. players did not play up to their potential, and we may find out that injuries had something to do with that but coaching shares the largest part of the responsibility in my opinion.

I like this. If the two superstars are stopped or injured, you got nothing and might score only 2 goals in a series.

93 was worse. Just think of the drama. There was as someone put it earlier, "resigned sarcasm" in this one. 93 was a heartbreaker.

seriously how many teams have two mega star centers and a 40 goal winger plus 2 25 goal wingers?

And how did that work out? to me if you depend too heavily on one or two players, you can be stopped too easily as Boston just proved.

I'm here, too. I'll add the 1996 ECF against the rubber-rat Panthers as a distant third.

The plan was if you focus on shutting one down, the other would be left free. I guess it's easy to shut both down when both of them are completely impotent offensively.

my point was that we have two complete lines that most teams would kill to have as their first line. Our problem is coaching and use of players not too much money tied up into two players.

B's played smart. Extremely smart.

'96 Panthers were butt-lucky.

That one hurts more.

Last year vs. the Flyers was WAY worse to me. Absolutely no goaltending or team D to speak of. We were actually in three of these four games and could've won any of them.

But, coulda...woulda...shoulda...

Our lines aren't complete for, playoff hockey. They just aren't. Too much skill, not enough speed and/or grit. No net presence, no cycle, no rebound goals, no dirt......3rd and 4th lines are a joke.

Throw in a few scrubs on defense we didn't have as clean of a shot at the cup as people think.
