So, Sidney Crosby...

Postby Getting To My Game on Fri Jun 07, 2013 9:55 pm

No, this is not going to be some ridiculous thread about trading him to the Jets or something (though, I'm sure that's coming), but I can't be the only one who is really embarrassed and ashamed by his performance and actions in this series. Let's forget that he was completely held off the scoresheet for a second and just analyze his actions in the other parts of the game. All of the negative things that any fan of any other team has said about Sid over the years held true against Boston. The whining to the media, embellishing falls to try to draw penalties, the constant look of frustration and that "Mommy won't let my pudding because I don't eat my meat" look on his face, were all present and account from. Right now, I'm embarrassed and ashamed to call him the captain of my favorite team.

Also, I'm noticing that against good defensive teams in 7 game series, Crosby's game is thoroughly predictable and easy to gameplan for. I'm not seeing that gamebreaker mode, like the greats before him have shown. Gretzky, Lemieux, Messier, Sakic, Yzerman, etc. would find a way to break through any barrier. Not seeing it from Sid.

Everyone was held off the scoresheet.

I don't know what it was, but the Penguins just totally lost their mojo. It wasn't just Crosby. I don't understand it.

And I'm not saying that Crosby is the only one who played badly, obviously not, but he's the captain and supposedly an all-time generational talent, so it all starts with him.

I am going to take a wild guess and say Sid was hurt at some point in game 2.

He almost won the scoring title while missing a month. He was stymied in a playoff series when coaching means more..

Non factor. Trade him and Letang for Marchand.

Crosby's style is the type of style you plan to shut down in the playoffs. Malkin's style is the type of game you HOPE doesn't kill you. Hence Malkin's billion good chances and Sid getting donkey bonked every inch of the ice.

You sound like a Capitals fan talking about Ovechkin. And the predictable style that's easy to defend against? Yeah, Ovechkin.

You or I could coach Mario Lemieux in his prime and he would never be held off the scoresheet.

Did you watch hockey in the 90s? Lemieux, Sakic, Yzerman, etc. were practically gangtackled in the neutral zone and still found a way to fight through it and get their points.

Nope, and that's the problem. There is a new fan base that has spurred up since we've acquired Malkin and Crosby and they are "privileged" to Pens recent success. They don't understand the ebb and flow of the playoffs, let alone NHL season. They think Mario has downright fantastic every playoff series.

No one was. No one ever will be. This is how things go. You win some and you lose some. Every year there are 29 losers to one winner. This is what makes winning so sweet. This is why we are privileged to be in a spot where we always have a chance to win.

@pgshelly 2m
Crosby said he came out of series healthy and just got wind knocked out of him on Paille hit in first period. #Penguins

So no injury excuse, he just didn't play well at all.
