Yep, and the Pens draft Seth Jones to replace Letang, at a much cheaper salary for many years. This all hinges on finding a coach that can coach young defensemen though haha.

Shero would take a defenseman and this place would collapse. :pop:

The #1 prospect is apparently Seth Jones who is a big right handed two way defensemen haha.

Jones and MacKinnon are pretty neck and neck. Actually Drouin is right there too.

I think what you just said is the joke that was being made though.

They wouldn't have to take Jones. MacKinnon would be an excellent fit on this team. Excellent skater and winger. IMO, MacKinnon>Letang for us in the long run.

I don't know what to vote on. Depends what he wants.. we still have to see about that. Thing is that once you trade a guy with his skill, it'll be next to impossible to find one like him unless maybe some kid we have eventually develops in similar fashion but even that is unlikely. I don't believe he's a dumb player, but one that needs a better defensive coach to help him reach that next level. He is rightfully considered as a great player, but I feel he tries to do too much and sometimes it bites him and us in the behind. That doesn't mean I would give up on him any time soon. I feel so much has been the problem with coaching, whether it's Letang or even Sid lately. I guess it will all depend on how much money he wants, but 7 million would be extremely difficult to work with.

I don't dislike Letang -- I dislike having him take up 7 to 8 million in cap space. I'd be more comfortable in a price range he's never going to sign so no use even discussing that. Letang is a unique talent but not worth his asking price. Not for the Pens but perhaps another team.

Would you rather have Neal at 5 or Letang at 7? I'd take Letang.

Trade him, as much as I like the guy we can't afford Malkin and Letang. I would take Malkin over him anyday. A franchise center is more valuable. I assume you can still get one heck of a return for Letang at half his cost without raising the cap hit.

I would trade Letang for 2, 4 million a year d-men. Martin and a extra forward on the PP at the point works for me. I don't want to see that Letang 5 on 5 player we saw in the playoffs ever again.

I will say that if this poll were put up before the playoffs the results would be quite different.

If Shero believed in him that badly, then he would get him a coach that could fix his issues because Letang is only going to get worse under Bylsma.

I gotta say, I don't believe Rossi. He's pandering to the "blame Letang" contingent of the fanbase. And his source? "The Penguins organization believes..." What does that even mean?

$7-8m is not market value for Kris. I could see him getting max $7m on the open market. But if he signs here, he can get an 8th year. He'll sign here for btw $6-7 IF HE WANTS TO BE HERE. If he doesn't really want to be here, then that's a different matter. Obviously you can't lose him for nothing. I'd trade him to Florida for Huberdeau+. Maybe they'd be interested in Fleury too... Package Letang, Fleury for Huberdeau + their 1st.

Honestly though, I just don't see the Pens moving their best defenseman in decades. I'd rather let Dupuis walk or get rid of Kunitz or Orpik or someone like that to make up the extra $million that it'd take to keep Letang.

It's difficult to answer this based on what Letang "wants". Because I'm sure what the Penguins "want" is not the same number - and if they agree, it will be somewhere in the middle.

If the Pens trade Letang, we'll need someone to run the powerplay, and that won't be cheap either, if they are good. (unless we try Martin first?).

It's most definately a long-shot, but I'd rather the Pens try to sign Letang at a more friendly cap hit, and work on his PP and consistancy - because just about everytihng else is special, and he eats a ton of minutes as others have said. He's just coming into his prime as well.

They have to get Geno done first though before they decide on 58, I think.

If that's what he wants he's buying his way out of town. Trade Letang to LA for Bernier + another young roster player.

Sign and trade, unless for some reason we know we won't/can't re-sign Geno. I have been assuming that Geno re-signs for a long deal at about $7.5 million per. I can forsee KL getting the right coaching and being a great one, but this past month was awful to watch.

LA can't afford him.

They have a lot of holes to fill.

71 is definitely getting more than 7.5/per, and it will probably be 9.25-9.5.

There aren't 29 other cities. New York has 2 teams.

Blah. The Islanders aren't really in New York. Screw them.

How does the 8th year work?

As in do we have to trade Letang before this season for that team to be eligible for that 8th year or could we trade his rights on June 30 next year and that team could include the 8th year? I can't find anything specific so I'm assuming that whatever team holds his rights the day he would hit free agency is the team that can offer that 8th year.

Was curious on how much incentive there is in regards to that or if there is none.

Colorado might be the perfect trading partner for Letang. If they could work it to get Erik Johnson and the 1st, that would be spectacular. Colorado needs a puck mover.
