I think there's one wild card here. PD could comfortably take less money in the short term ($3MM per?), knowing that he'll have a job in Pittsburgh the rest of his life if he does.

I think he deserves at least $4 million, the way he's been playing.

Philly just gave Mark Streit a 4 yr, 5+ mill per deal. I hope Dupe isn't thinking it's his lucky day.

Considering he is not a puck moving defender, that can QB a power play, thats probably not what he's thinking.

3-9 is the deal, it makes too much sense.

Don't give him 4 years.

if he's offered 3mil here, and 4mil elsewhere, that's an extra 4mil in his pocket over the next 4 yrs. he'd have to work a loooong time as a scout or at some sort of consulting position to make up that much money.

True, if it were all about money. I'm not saying it makes up for $4MM, but it sure helps since he loves the city so much.

He loves the city sure, but if he loves scoring goals and going after the cup, those are big motivating factors too. He's able to have those opportunities playing alongside Sid. That said, for $1MM annually I'd go work for one of our competitors.

Signing bonuses are irrelevant to fans. Cap average is cap average.

Dupuis has earned $7.2 mil over the past 5 years. I know that's not a lot when compared to what athletes are making in other sports, etc. but it is still quite a bit. Perhaps Dupuis would be contnet making $9mil in Pit over the next 3 seasons rather than going to an unfamiliar team/city just to make an extra $1mil per year. Dupuis seems like a family first guy and may want to keep his family in the same place where his kids have grown and made friends, etc.

Stanley Cup. check!
Played with two of the best players in the world. check!
Can fit in any role on any team in any system. Check!
Cash in on a long term big money contract. Nope!

I would be surprised if he stays. I want him to stay but if there is a way I can get money for my future grand kids to go to college it would be hard to say no.

The problem with Duper will be both money and term, not just cap. His 'short term' is potentially the rest of his career, at 34.

I think Dupuis is going to stay. He is on record numerous times saying his family loves it here and he would prefer to stay. He is the type of player that would take the home town discount, but he isn't going to take a slap in the face lowball offer either. Dupuis's numbers have increased every year (went down 1 pt from 09-10 to 10-11). Has he thrived playing with Crosby? Absolutely. I think he has learned a lot and been able to improve his game, but he is not dependent on Sid. He put up his best numbers last year, when Sid only played 22 games. He is the most versatile of the Pens, being a top 6 forward, top PK guy, has the speed for the system, meshes with Sid, etc. He is also a late bloomer, so while he is 34, I think Shero would not have as much of an issue signing him for 4 years.

My guesses are: If he gets 4 years, he gets between 3-3.25mil a season. If Shero will only go 3 years, he gets 3.5-3.75mil a season. Highest is 3 years, 12mil total, but very hesitant to go that high. He deserves to double his current 1.5mil salary, at a minimum.

I'd be worried about giving Dupuis a long term deal since he is 34. He is a good player right now but chances are his game is going to regress. If they can get something done for 2 years I would be happy. If not, I think it's time to let him walk. Bennett is ready to move into a top 6 role, leaving one spot open. I think they could fill that spot with a cheaper or younger option if they wanted to leave some cap space.

Trade Letang, keep Dupes. This is what I think should and will happen. But I thought getting rid of Disco should and would happen too so what do I know.

I'll say 3 years $3.5MM per will be Shero's offer...if that will be enough we will see. If not, maybe offer the same deal to Iggy?

Don't think I would offer Iggy, who is soon to be 37, a 3 year contract.

My bad, I always did have trouble with math. Still wouldn't offer him 3 years though.

I have to agree with this, the 4 year security would have to be a factor for him to accept 2.5 a year. I really think Dupuis would be worth it cause even at the 3rd or 4th year if his goal scoring would decline he would still have the speed and ability to play a 3rd or 4th line position and on PK duty.

He can get more else where and I am sure he knows that put I would hope the chance to play in Pittsburgh would entice him to take this amount. Of course if the Rangers per say offered him 12 over4 years he would have to bolt.
