I dont think you can say 9.5M per is a discount.

I think I'm going to ask my boss for a hometown discount of 9.5m and see what happens. :pop:

Crosby's cap hit is $8.7 million dollars, not $10.6 million dollars. I wouldn't say becoming the second highest paid player in the league is a discount. Especially when everyone across the league considers the highest paid player to be overpaid.

He got paid what he deserves, and i'm glad for that because if he wanted, he could have got a lot more.

I don't think he can actually sign until like July 5th or something, whenever there is one year or less on his current deal. Terms were agreed, pens will be put to paper then I'm thinking.

Great to see Malkin still want to stay i Pittsburgh and doesn't want to move to another team to be player no. 1! That's great work by Ray Shero, Dan Bylsma and all the Penguins fans in the city of Pittsburgh. Doesn't seem that any players wanna leave the city once they are settled.

No, he could have got the max from a team in dire need of a star, which would have been an overpayment.

For all intents and purposes we'd wait till "next season" so it would be $12.86 million

Ar least 25% of the cap in two years is taken up by two players.

To me, that's not a model of success. Good luck signing Bennett, Despres, etc. in a few.

I just think its too expensive for just offensive weapons.

Malkin's contract should not be compared to contracts made prior to the new CBA, but to contracts made after the new CBA. Perry & Getz contracts for example. So considering this and the amount of money he could have made as one of the top players in the league, I would consider it a discount.

In all seriousness, Dupuis can't be signed to a long term deal. Too much money to tie up in a guy like that.

And therein lies he problem by signing Malkin. You'll lose more pieces than you'll gain.

With that signing comes a lot of changes I wouldn't want to make to a good roster.

Why? Because he'll make more money over his career under this CBA than he would have under the old one? Seems counter-intuitive.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that every single GM in the league would love to have both 87 and 71 signed to those contract.

on a competetive team, there's a ceiling for how much you can realistically pay someone. and that ceiling is about 10 mill. no team that isn't a complete joke was going to give malkin much more than that - despite the fact that anaheim sucks at salary negotiations

8 years/100 million.

I thought for sure this would be the way the players handled their contracts after the new CBA. The owners wanted term limits, and it forces the players to max out at whatever they can get. So to me, the 8 years 76 million is a veer nice surprise.
