the thing that really stinks is that malkin should have won one if not both of the hart trophies ovechkin won earlier.

Ovechkin was the rightful Hart winner in 2008 for sure...

Ovi might not of won for this reason, but he was more valuable to his team than Sid. Ovi always cashes in on the fact that the Pens have both Sid/Geno.

yeah, the 65 goals are worth acknowledgement. but geno keeping things afloat with sid and fleury out for half the year deserved some recognition.

I still don't get how malkin didn't win the Hart in 09 since the precedent seemed to have been set by ovechkin the previous year that all that matters is scoring titles.

Sid got the more prestigious award IMO. I think it's more of an accomplishment to be voted by your peers as MVP then it is by the media. Those are the guys you battle with every night. To have their respect is a bigger deal.

I was gonna post a thread but instead I'll just reply here.

We have another 1989 in our hands. And I expected this result because these writers who vote for the Hart have absolutely no idea what they're doing. Both Crosby and OV had 21 games this season against playoff teams. The difference in their point totals and their team's win totals in those games is staggering.

OV had 9 goals and 10 assists for 19 points in those games. Crosby had 8 goals and 25 assists for 33 points! It's 1.57 vs. 0.9 points per game right there. The Pens lost 2 of those 21 games. The Caps lost 14 of those 21 games.

I don't think I need to keep going here... This is a joke. OV scored 23 goals in 27 games against non-playoff teams, including hat tricks against Florida and a totally depleted Devils team. Crosby gets hit in the jaw with a puck and all of a sudden, the clowns of the PHWA start talking about "the MVP conversation". How ridiculous. The NHL is just embarrassing... :face:

- Mikey is serious.
- Ovechkin definitely deserved it in 2008, and walked away with the award almost unanimously, IIRC.
- Bobby Clarke was not a sissy and he didn't hide from anyone.
- Unclear meaning of Lindsay/Pearson creates doubt about the award as well (see: Bobby Orr only winning one ever, and losing one in his Hart/Norris/100 assist season to Jean Ratelle of all players...).
- Media vote not worth as much as it was in the pre-merger era.

Thanks for going above and beyond mere suck age Brooks. I guess that wasn't enough.

I'm just saying if I was a player, if I had to choose between being named MVP by the Media, or MVP by my fellow players, I'd go players every time as I would take that as a sign of respect amongst those you play agianst.

Agreed. 4th on his own club in ES/TOI, 2nd in ATOI. His own coach didn't believe he was the best defenseman on the team, one could make that suggestion at least.

I hope you enjoyed it.

Seriously I knew this would happen and I'm really angry and really tired that we are seemingly always getting the short end of the stick.

Anyway I look forward to hearing that Ovie got syphilus (sp) over the summer. It's time for the worm to turn. I really want to see Sid lead Canada to gold in Sochi so Sir Smirnovs career can take a nosedive...again.

The one positive is I now have some precedent to use when I screw around at work half the time and am denied a promotion.

Yeah...the State Personnel Board isn't going to be able to get away with that. Ovie will be cited in my reply brief.

Never led the league in points. Not a noted goal scorer. Played for a very defensive team. Lacked a #1 PMD to create the same dynamic that other high scoring 70's teams utilized (Montreal, Boston, etc.) and his numbers suffered as a result.

I invite you to read the small blurb on Bobby Clarke in this article I wrote on his defensive play: http://thehockeywriters.com/elite-eight ... y-history/

Doesn't have a "moment" necessarily that's positive. There's really only two lasting memories of Bobby Clarke, right? His toothless grin and the slash on Kharlamov.
