Kennedy offer sheet...

Postby Jesse on Tue Jun 25, 2013 8:01 am

Per Dave Molineri, the Penguins are looking to sign Kennedy, Jeffrey, and Bortuzzo.

I was not expecting Tyler Kennedy to return to the Penguins.

I was not either, and it didn't even occur to me that he was an RFA. Not crazy about them paying him $2 million again.

Signing his RFA tender, does that just extend his current deal out a year?

If he accepts the qualifying offer then thats effectively what it does.

Ok, thanks. Wasn't sure if it were possible that the qualifying offer could be less than his past extension.

I could see Carolina extending him an offer to re-unite him with Staal.

No if you make more than x amount($1 miillion), then the minimum qualifying offer is equal to your current salary(or rather the previous season's)

I'd think he has some trade value, so this is better than losing him for nothing. Not to mention that he can be a pretty effective player.

26 year old with 15-20 goal production and 75 playoff games in his career is worth something, letting him go for nothing when you hold his rights is bad business imo.

Do they have room in their top 6? Staal, Staal, Semin, Skinner, Ruutu,...is Tlusty their 3rd lien center or a wing?

the other part of it is that we have no viable replacement in our system, so you either pay 2 mill for kennedy or you find a free agent who you'll probably have to over-pay.

Probably rather have that $2MM in cap space used for something better then TK...

Change it up!

At the end of the season Jordan was playing with skinner and ruutu but there never seemed to be any chemistry between Jordan and skinner. Adding TK would be a cheap way for them to have three pretty decent lines.

Perhaps he is being kept for trade bait at the draft.

I hope so. I don't think I can take another year of gnashing of teeth over TK on this board.

At the end of the day, I'm fine with TK. I just hope it isn't their answer to think he's a good top six guy if Dupuis and nobody else re-signs.

Probably a sign that they aren't going to sign many if any of their impending UFAs.

This is all that can be read into this. I guess we'll just have to wait and see who else signs or doesn't sign.

I don't have anything against Kennedy but he's not worth $2 million. If it were possible/legal to get him for $1.5 million or less I'd be happy. At $2 million I'm...eh.
