Lousy 5v5. Selectively good on the PK. Dirt cheap. Known commodity. No one in the system to take his place. Add that all up, and I guess it makes sense to bring him back. With the top heavy salary distribution, we can get used to having a puddle of nothing at the bottom of our lineup anyways - with or without Adams.

He's fine as a RW not bumping Vitale. And he should be minimum which is cheaper than calling up guys from WBS who's NHL hit is closer to $1 million. He'd be a great 13th forward though if that's the plans.

He is married to Bylsma, soon as Adams retires he's gonna be an AC coach.

I love CFA and don't mind the signing.

But this is a fact: we just got one year older and a little slower at that position. The PK will not improve, at best it will degrade proportionally to however much quickness he loses, which will prolly be very slight.

The success of our PK has nearly nothing to do with Adams and almost everything to do with Fleury removing his head from his posterior.

I agree. CFA is the least of this teams problems.

So the league's 25th ranked PK isn't a problem? I'd argue that there are better centers for the PK than Craig Adams, and youth, speed and energy available for the 4th line. 36 year old NHL players rarely find a way to come back from a pretty terrible year.

He was as great as a forward could be on the PK and abysmal 5v5. How did that would out again? I'll sacrifice some of the former for the latter.

Probably never. You still have people suggesting that Colby Armstrong should come back for heaven's sake

I like Adams and hope he is back. I can see that opinion is in the minority, but there is nothing wrong with his game.

I think what people are saying is not that there is anything wrong per se, just that there is nothing right. He is not a threat. He brings nothing to the table and could possibly be holding a roster spot that could better be used developing a younger player that we could get a number of years out of with a better upside. Adams is not going to get better, he is just going to be Adams.

I really hope it does not. I don't see how we have room for a guy that will be 37 this season and is worthless when his team has the puck.

I see what you are saying. Then people would be complaining that a younger guy isn't given a shot because he gets called up to waste away on the fourth line and blast Bylsma for hating rookies. He's not really stealing a roster spot from anyone that the Pens hold in high regards.

IF the coach used both sid and evgeni to kills penalties; may be able to replace Craig. But with top PK person, P Dupuis and M Cooke contracts situation iffy; they need somebody who knows the Coach Blysma's game.

I don't know ACTG PK philosophy. If it's a block heavy strategy, I can see why you wouldn't want Sid or Geno out on the PK.

we just don't need him anymore, we got to have a guy in the system who can take his spot. If we don't shame on Shero.

Because killing penalties is not all that specialized of a skill. There are plenty of guys out there that can kill penalties just fine AND bring something to the table 5 on 5.

penalty killing forwards aren't valuable commodities. also, our penalty kill wasn't any good until the playoffs...which included series' against 2 atrocious power plays. Boston was 26th in the league and Ottawa was 20th. the other series was deceptive. the islanders had their way with out penalty kill. they just couldn't close the deal.

so really, there's little evidence that our penalty kill is any good, and PK forwards are relatively easy to replace. the only reason adams should still on this team is because our farm system has no one to take his place.
