3rd pick is expensive, when already missing first. But got to fill the organizational need I guess.

Still want Shero to trade Poliout for Nichushkin.

Definitely need to and this is a start. I wonder why RS decided to move up and grab him...he must have suspected that another team was sure to draft him ahead of the Pens and that's sort of likely as he's on a lot of draft boards higher than when he was taken(or would have been).

Drafting for need can be a double-edge sword at times, but the Pens' goalie system needs replensihing after their #1 gets benched in the playoffs and Vokoun is getting old. The WBS goaltenders are real blah too.

They had two 3rd round picks, not a big loss.

They still have pick 77, the 16th pick in the third round. They traded their own pick, 89, in that round.

Is this the pick they received in the Morrow for Morrow deal?

Jake Guentzel is a student of the game as he has the highest hockey IQ among Minnesotans eligible for the 2013 NHL Draft. The University of Nebraska-Omaha recruit demonstrated his great awareness on a nightly basis as he was able to create offense when very little time and space was given. Guentzel was the leading scorer for Sioux City, amassing 73 points in 60 contests. Guentzel was selected as the USHL forward of the week on three occasions and was honored as the USHL rookie of the year for 2012-2013 season.

Guentzel is very creative around the net as his approach is unpredictable, not tipping whether he is passing or shooting. His shot is very deceptive as he releases it from many different angles and with great accuracy. Guentzel demonstrates soft hands with an ability to receive passes cleanly and distribute with equal effectiveness. Guentzel is a good skater and possesses excellent acceleration. Guentzel’s biggest flaw is his size (5’9,150) and his inability to play a physical style game

Guentzel has the skill-set that makes him a very intriguing prospect, but he must add strength to compete at the next level. Guentzel is considered a long term project but should payoff to a franchise looking for elite talent.

*At least he's not a defensman.

Next year will tell the tail as he becomes the starter. Yes, we drafted a back up.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here. Are you criticizing the pick because you feel his upside is backup goalie?

You don't have to be large to be strong on your skates. Give him some time. Bennett was a stick when drafted too.
