if the cap is 73million or so for the 14-15 season this will be great.

Geno's other winger is Jussi Jokinen or Beau Bennett unless they clear cap room via a trade (Niskanen) for a pick and no salary returning.

This makes me happy. With all the people around here (and everywhere else for that matter) saying Duper was a goner, I was starting to believe it. So this was certainly a nice surprise. A little more than I expected, but still easily under market value for what a player of his production is worth. He certainly could've got as much and more on the open market. My faith in RS is slowly being restored.

One thing that really blows me away with Dupuis, is the amount of points he was racking up last year while getting virtually zero PP time. Given full time power play duty, he could've easily racked up an additional 10 points or so. Considering he has such a great slap shot and is pretty responsible defensively, I think it would make sense to add him as the 4th forward on the power play when they decide to go that route.

Ok here is a possible starting lineup, I'd try Kunitz on Malkin's line and put Beau with Sid. The only way I see Cooke getting signed is if you trade/buyout both Glass and Juicy and then get another cheep forward to fill the spot... maybe Adams one more year.

My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Beau Bennett ($0.900m) / Evgeni Malkin ($8.700m) / James Neal ($5.000m)
Chris Kunitz ($3.725m) / Sidney Crosby ($8.700m) / Pascal Dupuis ($3.750m)
Jussi Jokinen ($2.100m) / Brandon Sutter ($2.067m) / Joe Vitale ($0.550m)
Jayson Megna ($0.925m) / Dustin Jeffrey ($0.688m) / Harry Zolnierczyk ($0.660m)
Tanner Glass ($1.100m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Paul Martin ($5.000m) / Brooks Orpik ($3.750m)
Kris Letang ($3.500m) / Matt Niskanen ($2.300m)
Simon Despres ($0.840m) / Deryk Engelland ($0.567m)
Robert Bortuzzo ($0.578m) / Brian Dumoulin ($0.900m)
GOALTENDERS
Marc-Andre Fleury ($5.000m)
Tomas Vokoun ($2.000m)

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,298,333; BONUSES: $85,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $1,086,667

OK here is with the removal of Juicy and Glass and adding Adams and Cooke with a slight raise (yes I know nobody sees a raise in his future)

Now I'm not sure what's going to happen the following year when Letang and Malkins raises kick in.... going back to my upper roster glass and juciy's contracts expire that year and they take care of themselves, while hoping for an increase in the cap.

I'm glad. I'm also unsurprised that Shero deviated from his 30+ rule especially for Duper and relented on the 4th year.

In Botterill I trust.

I think we need to tranquilize Botterill and just keep him sedated until June every year.

JJ as a top 6 does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling. Bennett may be able to step up. guess we'll get to find out. Depth may be a pretty big issue with this team.

yeah, this might be one of the few recorded instances of a player in his mid 30's actually getting signed to a reasonable deal on an upward trend

Bennett looked good with Malkin and Neal last season. If Jokinen sticks around, he'll be a depth jack of all trades guy. I think Jokinen can be really useful in the regular season due to his shootout ability, faceoffs, PK, and some scoring.

Depth at forward probably will be an issue if they have a lot of injuries. WBS is pretty bare. Hopefully Shero can do some good work beefing up the bottom six the rest of the summer.

Defensive depth remains pretty solid, though.

I'm sorry but they HAVE TO play Despres with Letang (or in the top 4)

I still think trading Niskanan to save $2.3 million is the right move..... Engelland/Bortuzzo/Dumoulin can handle the 3rd pairing

Agree with the Jokinen points, just can't picture him as a solid second line winger.

despres thrived in protected minutes on a bottom pairing last season. he really struggled when asked to do anything else. He his much too much of an x factor to throw out there, especially to cover for letang's adventures. not saying he won't be there in the future... not saying that at all. just that's a lot to ask of the kid.

What Froggy said. Need to keep in mind that Despres is still a 21 year old. Still has a lot to learn before he's capable of solidifying his spot in the lineup (without the breaks as a scratch).

And that's not a bad thing.

I think I will love this contract for about 2 years...luckily with the cap set to increase (praying) it won't matter he is being paid like he's 30 at 36. How great is this guy though...gets his big bucks when most players are thinking about hanging them up.

I feel that would hurt Despres more than help. Why hang Despres out to dry when Letabg decides he wants to play forward?

Plenty of other ways to learn the game and get better. Making him clean up Letang's messes is not what I had in mind.

But that's neither here nor there, this is a Dupuis thread. Friggy and I derailed it enough.

Whatever. It's an opinion. None of it means **** in the long run.

Nothing you or I say is going to change how Shero and Bylsma chose to develop players, so while it's fun to discuss, it's nothing to get worked up over (to the point you want fisticuffs, apparently).
