And to add, nothing either of us says is going to change each other's opinion (most likely).

No matter, this team will get smoked again in the playoffs anyways.

I'm kind of surprised at the majority being so massively in favor here.

I've been a big Dupuis fan for years and cheered on his successes this year just as hard as anyone. It's genuine when I say that this guy deserves a paycheck. Many parts of me wanted it to be with the Penguins, but I figured Shero would balk at the term.

3.75 AND 4 yrs at age 34 after a career year? is that kind of production sustainable?

I will happily eat crow and wish nothing more than to be wrong...but this one worries me.

Nothing you or I say is going to change how Shero and Bylsma chose to develop players, so while it's fun to discuss, it's nothing to get worked up over (to the point you want fisticuffs, apparently).

But i does possibly affect what Rossi puts on his twitter

Letang played his best defense when paired with Despres.

If Letang and Despres don't work out together, what about Orpik with Letang and Martin with Despres? Paul Martin is a responsible guy who can provide a good example for Despres and not hang him out to dry. In the mean time, Letang with Orpik has worked well in the past.

On the 3rd D pairing, one of Engo or Niskanen should go. Unfortunately since Engo is cheaper, it will probably be Nisky. Got to make room for the young guys. Dumoulin is ready and Harrington is supposed to be very mature for his age. Plus, Bortuzzo is still just hanging around.

If you can move Nisky for a young forward on an affordable contract to dress out the 3rd line, maybe develop into a top 6 guy in the future, I think you do it.

This gets a big ole meh from me. Love Dupuis and I'm glad he's sticking around, but this team needed change and its not getting it, Bennett's shot as Sid's RW (his preferred position) is already gone, its pretty obvious they are going to continue signing Kunitz and Dupuis until Sid decides to retire, and now UFA is boring for me.

It definitely doesn't further the goal of young and cheap, which got real important earlier yesterday.
Then again, they don't appear to have any top 6 prospects in the system for the foreseeable future.

Its a good signing. Dupuis is a versatile guy he can play on the first line or he can play on the fourth line. The UFA market is terrible this year. If Shero didn't resign him, he would be paying crazy money for someone who isn't as good as Pascal.

Once Shero re-signs Adams and Cooke, he'll be eligible for a team discount from Tony Siragusa.

With a full season - hopefully the team will feel they have more time to let the young guys progress. A short season was a sprint - a bit risky to let your guys sink or swim in a sprint.

There would be about 25 other teams who would love to have this type of insanity.
Yes the penguins ran into a team playing better than them in the ECF, but a few bounces here or there and that series is a lot closer. That being said Boston played perfect hockey and it's pretty tough to beat a team playing perfect hockey.

I don't like this contract and think the people who are elated for him now will hate it when a 3rd liner is making almost 4 million per season in 2 years.

Pens still have about $4,700,000 in cap space with Bortuzzo to resign and 2-3 forward spots remaining (all bottom-6 players). It may not be as boring as you think.

If Dumoulin earns a shot in camp, and stays up as an 8th D, you have 2 forward spots needing filled with about $2,500,000 to do it.

The PDAS is alive and well. AND in Pittsburgh! :fist:

In a sense, what Shero did was trade TK, give him TK's salary as a raise and throw in $250K and a LNTC for good measure. Of course you remove TK's body from the equasion and you still need to plug one more in, but a cheaper TK version can certainly be found somewhere in the loop.

Now all I have to do is buy that Dupuis 9 jersey. :D

I'm also thinking that, with Letang on for the long haul and with the org high on these guys sitting on the fringe of the NHL (Dumoulin, Harrington, Maatta) Niskanen could very easily be moved at some point, which frees up a good $1,500,000 once you replace him one of those aforementioned.

I'm not either, but the guy has really earned it. As Mikey said, he made peanuts by comparrison to other top-line wingers who do PK work. I almost shed a tear thinking about how he and his family celebrated this last night with their kids. He's now going to go into retirement with an additional $15,000,000...which is probably not far from what he's made in his entire career up to this point. If it hurts us for a year or two...I can live with it for Pascal.
