Without looking it up, I am thinking one was actually Gary Rissling for a while. I should know this because I am definitely old enough :D but that's been a long time ago.
Too-soff Shedden played some wing with him too, but I think Warren Young was the next year, not 66's first year.

Warren Young was definitely there with Mario in his first year, cause Warren had a fight in the game against the Bruins. I am also thinking maybe Mike Bullard too. Either Shedden or Bullard with Young.

Stan Savran was the Madden of the eighties (sports radio...talking hockey). Myron seldom talked Penguins and I don't recall Keidan/Musick/von Benko/et.al. spending all that much time with them either. Of course, KDKA was all Pirates even though the Pens were on KDKA.

Plenty of Lemeiux's goals were extraordinary and Stan would try to describe them getting a lot of mileage out of 'tackled' 'dragged' 'draped' 'on his backside' 'amazing' 'indescribable' etc. Lange's description in real time used the same word's but Stan would amplify the incredulity a day later.
Pretty cool times!

You really did have to be there to believe it.

If only Blysma was the coach then, the Pens may have made the playoffs that year.

John Buccigross ‏@Buccigross 2h Canada Cup '87. Lemieux/Wayne. Folk talk about the snipe but look at Mario's play/effort off faceoff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruloAuFazcg&sns=tw … via @youtube

Many, even Mario, believes this goal a turning point for him and the penguins. Back then Mario was so huge a body on the ice. If Mario heard an "iggy" call from Gretz... ignored! :P :!:

International hockey was a little more fun, when you had a definitive heel. :)

The beer vendor, whose description "intangible beer" became my handle once sold his wares by saying "Nice cold beer like Dougie Shedden used to drink".

I never knew his name, but the guy continually cracked me up. These were the days when most of the entertainment was in the stands, not on the ice. If you're out there, buddy, this one's for you! :thumb:
