Nobody is panicking, however I'm pretty sure we'd like to see him get off to a better start than that and NOT be doing the things that hurt him last year.

From the descriptions I've read it doesn't sound like he just booted it in the net ala playoffs, either. Here's netwolf's account:

Eric Majeski ‏@LGP_netwolf 2h
Glass scores on a slapper from the LW circle. Fleury for a glove on it, & popped up behind him, he gloved it again behind his back...

Eric Majeski ‏@LGP_netwolf 2h
Unfortunately, he didn't know he had it, and it fell out of he glove and in. Saved it twice, but couldn't keep it out.

On a side note, did anyone else see the rosters for A and B? Man... B was STACKED!

I'm pretty sure I read that Fleury turned the puck over however, resulting in the scoring chance.

Either way, the guy has lost the benefit of the doubt and needs to have a strong showing regardless of the setting now.

It's the first day of camp and PR is already unbearable. The Fluery and Blysma haters are already out.

As I said, nobody is panicking, but it will be cause for concern when your headcase goaltender doesn't stop any of the first 3 shots he sees in a controlled game environment.

As I said, he's lost the benefit of the doubt and needs to have strong play in whatever the setting may be.

He's learning a new approach. It's a little unrealistic to expect him to be 100% ready ON THE 1ST DAY OF ANY SORT OF CAMP WORKOUTS.

He's lost all benefit of the doubt. Truth be told, he's already been demoted to Wheeling.

Right, everyone is confident he'll be fine after his showings recently. I'm pulling for the guy, but there's no way I can confidently say "he'll be fine" after the way he's played lately.

Lately being... 4 games in the playoffs? What about the 34 games before that, including a shutout in the first game of the playoffs? The 2011-12 season is no different... which sample size holds more weight: 67 games or 6 games? The larger the sample size, the more accurate it'll be.

I'm also rooting for Fleury, but you guys are rushing to his defense as if he were a child. The guy has some serious issues as a goalie, that Pens management has all spoken clearly about and are hoping to address with a new goalie coach, shrink etc. Every media outlet lists Fleury as a huge question mark for the Pens this season. No need to hide from the obvious. Let's hope he works through his issues.

So far, on day one....

- Despres is out of shape (as per Josh Yohe tweet), lgp-phreak meter registers little bump
- MAF lets in first shot. lgp-preak meter spikes at max
- 2 more goals result in constant redzone meter readings on the lgp-preak meter

The meter has officially broken on day one, It's all over folks.

Everyone here knows that our thoughts and opinions don't matter. But you would be foolish to think that MAF's horrible day was laughed off by the coaches just because it is day 1.

I think people are just putting too much stock into it. By all accounts, Fleury's had fantastic training camps the past 3 or 4 years and where has it got him? Some of the best goaltending we've ever seen out of him came after starting the season so poorly that Brent Johnson was getting the majority of the starts; the last 4-5 months of that season, he was fantastic and was named team MVP.

Even looking just at the past few seasons, the questions marks around Fleury come down to his play in April and beyond. He's been consistently solid up to that point.

TLDR; I don't care if Fleury never makes a save in camp, or even in the pre-season, as long as he brings it for the regular season and playoffs.

Thanks to you guys for reading. If you didn't, I wouldn't be writing, and if I wasn't writing, I wouldn't have been able to weasel my way in as pseudo-media this week.

And to clarify, Glass' goal was not off a turnover as I recall. He just skated down the left side and let a slapper go from the circle. Fleury should've had it. Twice. But it's day 1 of camp. Stuff happens.

Thank you for the recap.

Just to chime in on the Fleury thing. I was not in favor of keeping him, but I have absolutely no concern about his play until the calendar turns to April. An optimistic view is that he will have his stuff sorted out through repetition by the playoffs and hopefully keep it going through them. I'm not rooting against him for sure, just not sure if it will work out. Only time will tell.

It's like watching a friend yet again get involved in a sketchy relationship.

You hope it works out, but it's difficult to be brimming with optimism.

The internet wouldn't be the internet without axe grinding. That's one of the benefits to Twitter. Character limits cut down on how much you can grind an axe, plus you have a lot more control over what shows up in your timeline. ;)

Which is not to say all criticism is axe grinding; there is a difference. Sometimes it's easy to spot, sometimes not.
