And there's your growing pains by Pouliot, proving he's not ready for NHL play yet, so I better not read of people claiming he should make the team this year. (and you know those people are out there)

Two Tbay boys playing hard. They skated together all summer here, so they may have been waiting for this.

Jeffrey-Vitale look good together. If they're 2/3rds of our 4th line, I'd be pretty happy.

Clusterscrum there, how many Pens can lay down in front of the crease and still not cover the puck?

Maybe the Pens will go winless in the preseason like the Steelers

My takeaways from this one:

--Bortuzzo was probably the best d-man for the Pens, physical, smart with the puck, and even able to join the rush a couple times
--I don't think it would be a huge loss not to sign Kobasew, but he seems like he could be a Cooke replacement. He is willing to go to the front of the net, work on the forecheck to win puck battles, and is serviceable on the PK. He's not as good as Cooke or as much of an agitator, but if the Pens want someone to fill that role, he seems a decent option.
--Pouliot doesn't seem all that close to NHL-ready. The hands and the passing are there, but he's not up for the speed and physicality yet. I'm also kind of disappointed in his skating. He doesn't seem to be a bad skater, but some of highlight video made him look like a young Letang, and I certainly haven't seen that from him.
--Sill showed some good wheels and made some good hits. He seems to have potential to be a good 4th liner.

So the leader in hits for this game? Beau Bennett with 7. This kid will be playing every night and my guess is his line will change during games based on how things are flowing. Ray got this pick right.

He was throwing his body all over the place. I think they were saying the other day he put on about 30 pounds (in lean muscle)? You can tell just in interviews. He looks like a hockey player now.

Also the backhand pass he made in the 1st that lead to a breakaway...I only know a few guys in the league that make that pass and we already have 2 of them.

Bennett is going to be Hossa-lite. Can't wait for him to take his rightful spot on Crosby's RW.

Jeffrey has looked good through both preseason games. If he can transition to wing, he could be an effective 3rd liner on this team.

Agree. He was very impressive. he's working hard to claim a spot.

Kobasew should make the team over Glass for sure, probably Jeffrey too.

Ideally, bottom-6 looks like

Jokinen-Sutter-Kobasew
Jeffrey-Vitale-Adams
ex. D'Agostini

But we all know either Kobasew or Jeffrey will be gone in favor of Glass for some inexplicable reason.

I get the sense that this is the popular sentiment about him. I imagine it's because he's been around for a few years...

When I watch him, I see a smart, highly-aware player. I can totally see him developing into an all-around workhorse like Pascal Dupuis, a guy you can rely on in any situation. He doesn't have the speed, but he's got better vision, can play center, and from what he's showed in his limited opportunities, a knack for scoring big goals.

Last year he played too tentatively. He wasn't bad, but he didn't force Blysma to play him...and so Shero went out and got Jokinen. This year he looks to be more confident. Hopefully he at least gets a permanent spot on the 4th line, I'd bet that he'll work his way up into being a top 9 player on this team if so.

Jeffrey is prone to some big turnovers in the defensive and neutral zones, and that's what scares me the most about him. I think he can be pressured fairly easily. Sort of the opposite of what makes Adams steady enough to play 4th line duty...smart enough to not panic when handling the puck. Jeffrey's looked good in two preseason games, but I'd want to see some major consistency when he has the puck before I'd declare him a regular in the lineup. If he can figure out that one aspect of his game that seems to still give him trouble, than I could easily see him as a regular contributer.
