Shhhhhhh, you're supposed to defend the guy who is a total headcase and has blown up in the playoffs over and over again. Seriously the Pens will have a good regular season. We have arrived.

Haha I had to say that, when Bylsma said that after last season I still laugh about it.

Bylsma used Therians existing system during the rest of the 09 season and playoffs. Using only minor tweeks and getting the guys to play more agressive. We won the cup... Since then Bylsma instituted his own system and playoff success has not been forth comming.

Is it possible that MAF has a great regular season again? History for that is about as strong as he will choke in the playoffs.

If MAF regular season does go well, what are the chances that GMRS tries to trade him when his value is higher?

And for who? Does anyone really think Shero can land a return goalie that is better than Fleury?

Or if this were 2013 or 2012, or any other time that each of them have been in the league.

Miller won a Vezina... Fleury has received two 3rd place votes over his entire career. Two votes... That's it. Total. 2...

This teams still lacks any resemblance of a net scoring wing. I would only trade Flower for what they don't have anywhere in sight.

The goalie does not make the team people! The Pens absolutely SUCK at defense! Great goalies are made by great defenses. Period.

So... The Pens win and Fleury won. The Pens lose and it was the team that lost.

Which isn't all that different from saying the Pens win despite of Fleury and lose because of Fleury.

Fun debate.

Win as a team, lose as a team. A concept fans don't buy into. And in all honesty, it would be boring if fans did buy into.

does not compute

i don't think either of them are any good these days, so why add a more expensive version of shaky?

Give up goal on first shot from just inside blue line as a team

But if your win a 7-6 game, or lose a 7-6 game... you can say that. However it rarely happens so it is rarely said. People ALWAYS say that player-x won or the team lost, in general terms. Even when people are bashing Fleury (or whoever) they rarely directly blame the losses on them. They just spew bile at the player. I do admit hearing "so-n-so cost us that game" after a few bad goals or interceptions or such, but those are usually very specific situations in individual games... not a general mindset.

There is such a thing as a good goal or a bad goal from the goaltender's point of view. There is always a percentage of "blame" to go around, but it goalie is the last line. The actual puck stopper. You can say the defense failed to do this or that, or the offence didn't backcheck or such... but the goalie is the one that stops the puck.

If there is a 2-0 and they turn the goalie inside out... that is not a bad goal for the goalie. It is a goal, but if you lose because of that the goalie will not be the main target. A floater from the blue line... open season on the goalie.

this is getting way too granular. wins...losses...the puck stop here...blah blah. if you let in terrible goals in big moments, you're not a good goalie. fleury is not a good goalie until proven otherwise.
