I'm ok with Despres going back down, not ok with Bennett going down unless its one of those paper transactions where he goes down for a day and comes back up.

If Vokoun and Letang go on LTIR, we have room for all 3

It will be interesting to see if Letang does go on LTIR who do they keep on defense. Do they just move Despres into that slot, or do they give Maatta a 9 game trial and send Despres back to WBS which was rumored to be the original plan before the Letang injury.

Kobasew is skating on Sutter's line at practice, so it's a good bet that he's staying (for now).

Adams is being groomed for a spot in the organization once his contract is over. College pedigree, lots of experience on the ice, speaks well, Shero's got his back. Boom, next Asst. V.P. of (something).

We know bortuzzo and engelland either made it or will be dealt. Neither was waived by the noon cutoff. Same as d'agostini though he could be heading to IR.

Looks like 8 d to start including letang. Letang will go on IR and either maatta or despres starts the season with the big squad.

Bennett is the flex guy... could start down if they need cap space and go with 12f 7d 2g plus vokoun letang and dagostini

Despres has to stay.

So ridiculous for him not to. Let's keep the useless Engelland on the roster so we can send down a stud puck moving defenseman.

Yeah, I don't understand that logic.

Because it's not going to do him any good to play 8 minutes a night. Let him go down to the AHL for a month until Niskanan can he moved and Despres can move into those minutes.

Plus, they have to play the cap game.

Ok...he's one of their best top 6 dmen. Why would he play 7 minutes a night?

Because hes not going to play more minutes than Letang, Orpik, Scuderi and Martin. Niskanan isn't going to sit and he'll get that 2nd PP time. He's not going to get a lot of PK time.

So are you going to play him with Niskanen?

I'd roll

Orpik-Martin
Letang-Despres
Scuderi-Bortuzzo
Engelland

Scuds and Bort would be the Gill-Scuderi redux. Niskanen can take Letang's place until he's healthy.

Despres gains nothing from going to Wilkes barre. He's already polished enough where he should be playing nightly.

It's ridiculous to keep sending him down. He's not 18 years old anymore.

He's 22, which is still fairly young by NHL defenseman standards. And I'd disagree with the notion that he's polished enough to handle big minutes. If he were, he would've been playing more.

Also, a Letang-Despres pairing would be a dumpster fire of bad.

At this point, sending him down isn't because of his talent or as a punishment. It's best for him to get 15+ minutes a night so he stays on top of his game. Also, it's a cap game at this point.

Scuderi was brought back to play with Letang. That leaves the bottom pairing. Because of Niskys contract, he plays because he can't go down.

All this is moot because Letang will probably be out for 2 months.

Sure, but even 5 games of being the best statistical pairing on the team presents a stronger argument for, then the conjecture "they would be a dumpster fire."

Letang plays best when he doesn't have a stay-at-home guy to cover for him. Letang-Despres will be this team's top pairing eventually.

If you put a guy who needs a little babysitting with letang, it might effectively rein him in. Either way, it did work in the past. I don't think it's the best use of our resources, but its not crazy either.

I don't think it's crazy to send Despres down. Shero might not be getting any good offers for Niskanen and thinks he's a good enough asset that he shouldn't just be dumped on waivers. I was thinking Niskanen might be a Jordan Leopold type player at this point--decent on the 2nd PP, solid all-around 4/5 d-man, who could fetch a 2nd-rounder at the deadline from a playoff contender desperate for depth on the blueline. If all Shero is being offered right now is a really low round pick, he might just he's better off holding onto him and demoting Despres.

On the other hand, I was reading Bombulie's blog the other day, and he thought coming down to WBS might actually hurt Despres. He thought Despres tended to try to do too much in terms of stickhandling and trying to skate his way out of trouble in WBS, as opposed to the more simplified game he plays in Pittsburgh. I could see that being the case too.

They should send Depres and Bennett down. Juicy can handle second line duty and Depres is may a 5-6 defensemen.

Under no circumstance can they send Bennett down. They do not have the talent to replace him.

Yup, they can easily get down to 12F and 7 D under the cap by sending Despres, D'Agostini and Jeffrey down. Then you can worry about IR replacements after.
