Fun game to be at. Awesome seats in 108 about 15 rows back. Saw 4 out of the 5 goals in our end including Tanner F'n Glass haha. It's been a while since I was at a game live. Forgot how much I missed it.

Can't really complain about much of anything. Well besides the Wooing towards the end of the game. I just find it really really lame.

I'd fully utilize the nine-game tryout for Maatta before making a decision. Playing sheltered minutes in three games isn't enough to make such an important decision. That's not a knock on Maatta, but let's test him in a few different situations before we jump to such conclusions as trading an established NHL player(s) to make room for a 19 year old.

The one thing I notice on Maata, is he always seems to make the smart decision. He doesn't take many risks, which I can understand. Watching him from the stands tonight though... just his hockey IQ seemed to stick out to me. Always making the smart play.

It'd be nice to see Maata play against a decent team before making any decisions... I'd lean toward sending him back down at this point unless he's guaranteed to be top 4 for the rest of the year... the same situation happened with Letang, although without any quality D ahead of him on the depth chart and sending him back to juniors worked out well.

So what do you do when Letang comes back? It gets a little redundant having Maatta and Letang, especially since it would be pointless for Maatta to get scratched for Letang.

It isn't an Engelland or Bortuzzo issue. There is virtually no room in the lineup to get Maatta more PT when Letang returns (and this is assuming a trade isn't made).

If no trade is made, and you keep Maata, then I guess you'd have to ask yourself is Maata better than Bortuzzo right now? Cause that's who would sit in the case he stays I would assume.

No, he isn't. It's either NHL or OHL for him.

If Maatta is "injured", is he able to play in the AHL for a conditioning stint?

Not sure that's the question exactly. The question is what is the probability that Maatta's play would hold up over an 82 game season and playoffs?

They could keep everyone and waive engo and either put him in minors, no bury penalty or lose him for free, and still be ok as long as Vokoun is on LTIR.

The trick is D'Agostini.

I take this back, when D'Agostini does come back we can waive Engo and still be ok. Only vokoun coming back hurts.

Regardless of any other decisions, there's no compelling reason to structure roster moves around D'Agostini....it's not like he's going to be claimed off of waivers.
And if he is, who cares.

True.

I guess the question is, when the defense is healthy, is Maatta/Nisky or Maatta/Bort better than Nisky/Bort?

You aren't going to keep him up and make him a 7th guy when you have the option of not burning a year on the contract.

I think the better question is :
If the penguins keep winning and play this well defensively, does Letang become unnecessary? This is his final year before his new contract and all the trade restrictions kick in.

would seem a little silly to sign him to that contract just to ship him out because your team is playing well. While I wasn't necessarily thrilled over his contract, he's still a valuable asset that makes our team better. But that's just my opinion.

Does a 19 year old who has a good stretch of 9 games replace a Norris Trophy finalist? Is that the question?

Same thing that happened last year with Despres. Young D man has 3 decent games playing sheltered minutes and suddenly he's the Norris Trophy winner.
