Missed the game.

Was this like the Bruins series where we teed off from 40 feet and the goalie just played high and made easy save after easy save. Or did we really pressure and their goalie played out of his mind?

I only ask because Neal or no Neal not getting traffic or dirty and just getting tons of uncontested shots is what killed us and I was hoping we learned a bit.

They could have had more traffic in front of the net during power plays and in general, but they also had plenty of great chances and couldn't beat the goalie. He played 10x better than Rask did last year.

Cool thanks.

We definitely need to learn that skill on how to beat a hot goalie. I know the 3rd and 4th lines are in shambles right now but cycling and traffic, dirty goals and so forth. We still seem to miss that in our play book. From all lines really.

We need to get those. Losing one or two games to a hot goalie can kill a playoff series.

The Avalanche may have gotten out of their zone 5 times. It wasn't a matter of not maintaining possession or lack of cycling. We were in their end for at least 40 of the 60 minutes total. Giguere just played lights out.

There is no relation between this game and what happened last year. The Pens got 79 shot attempts off from all areas of the ice. Sometimes, the other goalie is seeing beach balls.

I feel like we won that game, hands down. Better in every facet of the game. We need to convert on PP no doubt but there isn't much to complain about from that game. Just a goalie on top of his game. He knew where the shot was coming every time and was in position to make the save.

While he is right he is worse than a message board troll at this point. After the Vancouver game I lost the last 1% of respec I still had lingering around.

Cool the shots and attempted we're so weighted it seemed to be that way.

Still - we need to learn to find ways to break those force fields. Sometimes you just need to crash and kick and claw if nothing else is working.

And you don't think they tried?

Come on. I know you have an axe to grind with that, but the Pens literally threw everything and the kitchen sink at Giguere. Sometimes the other goalie is just better.

Yeah. This was nothing like anything i have seen in recent years. Avs weren't even trying to exit their zone for large portions of the game. Pens tried everything. Just wasn't their night.

There were quite a few scrums in front of JSG. A goalie that is in the zone is the most inpactful player on the ice. It showed that tonight.

Then maybe you shouldn't have taken the word of message board posters.

There was plenty of traffic and guys crashing for rebounds. None of that matters when the goalie doesn't give up rebounds.

Hopefully that was a reminder to Shero, that he needs to have a backup goalie on his roster.

Have a drink man. Why should I believe you then or anyone? Why bother even reading the boards?

We got shutout. We have a history of this happening which costs is playoff series. It's a fair question.

our types of chances resembled the boston series a little, but this was a dominant 60 minutes . it was just one of those games. nothing much to see here.

and the CEC ice still freaking sucks

Based on the last few years (and the fact I haven't seen much hockey this year) when I hear that we didn't get traffic or have poor defensive zone coverage I go into straight "here we go again" panic. Even if I am convinced we still will win the division and the playoffs are 6 months away.

even if we didn't get traffic (which i'm not so sure is the case), we have 5 guys in our forward lineup who could be healthy scratches on some teams. i don't want to judge offensive ineptitude too harshly when we're not even fielding a group of NHL forwards.

Pens got robbed tonight. I'm not sure I can remember many more lop-sided defeats. Just one of those games where you have to tip your cap.

Scuderi was awesome tonight, probably saved a couple goals himself. What a great move it was to bring him back.

That dive by Jokinen was pretty bad, probably pointless since I'd like to think that they would have called that bear hug without it, but I guess you never know with refs.

Based on tonight, I can't see Colorado staying near the top of the league. I'm sure they're improved but they looked completely outclassed tonight by a legitimately good team.

Yeah that dive was a disgrace. It was so bad I wouldn't have even been upset if they didn't call the hold.

It's just aggravating why players just can't keep their eyes on the puck and keep their legs moving.

Honestly if JJ would've just dropped to the knees instead of flopping they probably would've gotten the PP out of it. The replay of it was bad.

Agree. They're solid and will collect enough points for the playoffs. But 8-1 is fool's gold.

That said, the future is bright for them with that group. Hejda was really good.
