Letang is back, goals against will be up

Postby RocketMan on Fri Oct 25, 2013 10:00 pm

Letang is too much of a wildcard and will cost this team.
He is terrible on the powerplay. He rarely hits the net, routinely make bad passes, and is frequently out of position.
He is undisciplined and impatient in his own end.
If he's in the Norris running this year, it will again be on Sid's coattails.

I imagine that he could be less irresponsible under the right coach.

They most certainly will Jack Martin needs to have a sitdown with Letang. First game back and 25 minutes is way too many I know he is in great shape but he is not a one man defense

Letang was brutal tonight - I'm hoping he gets a lot better in his own zone really fast or it's going to be a long 8 (or is it 9) years of watching Pens hockey.

That said - I'm trying to be optimistic because he's shown that he could be special.

I was at the game and am surprised at the strong opinions on Letang. I wasn't watching for him, but he was the defenseman I noticed the least all night other than him making weird decisions on the pp. at even strength, I barely noticed him at all. Not a good thing from a guy like him and a little surprising given how many minutes he had, but I also didn't see anything (outside of the pp) where I could rationalize a strong opinion either way on him.

As usual, he looks amazing until the moment of impact. When things start getting scrambled, he can't make a good decision.

You barely noticed him because he wasn't anywhere in the picture when the isles were scoring due to him being WAY out of position.

He was awful.

I wonder how much this coaching staff lets Kris improvise and how much is them wanting him to play within a system?
Last night, it seemed to me, he wasn't sure what was expected of him.

Letang needs a system and structure. Much like when Gonchar's first year under the great Edzo was a train wreck, MT then brought a system in place and Gonchar took off.

Letang reminds me too much like Mike Green at times, and that's not a good thing. Way too much fire wagon, running around hockey. That doesn't win in the playoffs...

"I felt pretty good," Letang said. "I mean, a couple mistakes here and there. But (it's) something (where) I need to get back into it and making sure I make good decisions."

Pretty much spot on I feel.

IMO, biggest problem with Letang is that he has complete free reign out there by the coaching staff. They just let him do whatever he wants because of his talent. I don't think there is any denying that. No other dman on the team comes even close to doing some of things he does out on the ice. Last year, Letang was jumping into the play on PENALTY KILLS. Happened a lot. And he was never taken off of it. All the evidence you need that he can do whatever he wants to out there.

sick of watching him zubov his way through every power play. shoot the effing puck when you get the chance. what was worse is after he had passed up golden chances all game long, he decided to try to force a shot through with two guys standing right in front of him that lead to the winning goal.

There's too much movement on that powerplay. Letang is a weaver, and I hate his tail.

This isn't a "panic after 2 games opinion."

He needs to coaching staff to take him aside and just work on the basics. Play really boring hockey. That's it. No risky business. He such a freeballer that it blows up in his face all the time.
