Generally, when you claim a player off waivers, you know it's better than your current group. Adding a contract like that doesn't seem like much to us, but that's real money, that's another contract, it costs money to claim players off waivers, etc. It's just not necessary for a team that is swimming in grinders...we have grinders on the first line, grinders on the third and fourth lines, grinders in the press box, our #7 d-man is a grinder, we signed undrafted free agent grinders, we have 10 Patrick Eaves...

The only reasonable point is: "why not 11?" Which is about as valid as it gets.

Wait till Kobasew gets back in 2 weeks (or less). No need to pick up a player to fill a hole that will be filled in 10-14 days, especially one that makes $1.2 million for very little production, and who was scratched from 16 of his team's 19 games.

Happy now?

No.

Because it's a discussion board. If you don't want people to discuss why it's a bad idea, don't post. Nobody is forced to agree with you.

You can't seem to handle the fact that no one agrees with you. Step back and take a **** chill pill.

Or, as Stripes put it, "Lighten up, Francis".

I think Eaves would look very good on the Pens' IR list.

The Penguins don't need energy, they need physicality, guts, and direction. They're lacking guys who go into dirty areas and initiate contact. They're not soft in the sense of being afraid of getting hit, but they're certainly not a physical team and are easy to defend. A player or two capable of filling a third line role while crashing and banging, along with some coaching would go a long way. Eaves isn't a guy who would solve any problems.

You mean like the guys they let get away? Like Cooke and Tyler Kennedy? :face:

And yes, the bigger problem is a better system as well.

To double back a bit, yes, Kobasew will be back, but there's no guarantee that he's The Answer for that line.
Then again, and as had been mentioned previously, it's not clear what that line's real role is. :?

I realize small sample sizes and what not, but the line of Bennett-Sutter-Kobasew was clicking pretty well for the 2 games or so they played before Neal getting hurt forced Kobasew up the lineup. 2 goals in 2 games for Kobasew, Sutter had assists on both.

Again, small sample size, but that was immediate results from the 3rd line, and they haven't looked the same since Kobasew moved up (and coincidentally, Kobasew looked bad playing a role outside of his abilities).

Eaves is a lateral move.

If the Pens attempt to acquire a third line player it needs to be an upgrade, not a player who may find life again on a new team.

I know there's probably no way this will happen, but I would give anything for Steve Ott to put on a Pens jersey.

So what did Megna bring? You didn't have a problem with him.

I think most people have a problem bringing someone into the organization when we have capable players all ready in the system, all ready budgeted for, that can play the same role that Eaves would play and be just as effective at it.

I agree with most everyone else here...Eaves and Kobasew are basically the same player. If Eaves was so valuable, he would not be getting waived, regardless of the specifics. I simply don't see any reason or need to add Eaves to the Pen's roster.
